Palm Springs / Indian Wells - Pool Halls

Beer hunter? I think that's the place on 111 and Washington, has at least a couple of tables. Maybe 8'? Been a while. There's a hall around there.. maybe cathedral city?

Edit: 19th Hole, on Washington, about halfway between 111 and the 10 has a barbox, iirc

Beer Hunter

Can't tell what they want to be:

A bar
A restaurant
Chuck E Cheese
Beverly Hillbillies
Bar Table Challenge of Champions (like Mohegan Sun).

They actually have bar tabes in a sunken center room with overhead TV's reminiscent of stadium scoreboards at hockey rinks. In the daytime, they cover the tables and use them for dining seating! Beverly Hillbillies!

Freddie <~~~ and now I've seen everything

I have a home out in Palm Desert but I don't live out there so don't know the area that well as far as the pool scene goes. But my understanding is there is not much. The reason is probably partly because there are a lot of the gated communities out there have billiard rooms onsite. My community has one, 10 nine foot Olhausens. They're not Gold Crowns or Pro Ams but pretty good and always well maintained. There are quite a few member only rooms like mine in the Coachella Valley.

That's quite a few tables. I've only seen a couple at the country clubs ive been to, with one having removed the table or two they had eventually.

Before i really played much, there was a spot in downtown PS that had about four or so tables, iirc, that ran a tournament. Not sure it exists any more. A few years back, i went to check out Sharkys or whatever it's called and it lived up to the reviews.. unfortunately. I go down there maybe once or twice a year, but don't even bother trying to go out and play. Next time, i may just set aside some day to drive back towards LA or even IE.

Wasn't there something in thousand palms? Thought maybe i remember someone talking about it before on here.

Found a site a while ago that had some league information on it. Never followed up on it when i got down there.

The first rule about pool club is you don't talk about pool club.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help, Freddie.

Perhaps it is most popular in the communities with more retired and in the 55 and over developments like my place. Not everyone plays golf I guess, so it's an attractive recreational activity. In my place there is a very active billiard club. It's a group of guys that meet M-F from like noon to 4 PM. They play doubles 8 Ball -one and fifteen in the side. One table is left vacant for walk ins but other than that they take every table. They have a tournament about once a month with the big one being the club championship. The winner gets his name on a perpetual trophy that's in the display case in the room. Never a problem getting a table in the evening. The clubhouse closes at 10 PM though.

But I would guess that over the entire Coachella Valley there are a lot of member only facilities, even if they don't have many tables.

It still strikes me as odd though that in such a big area there is not at least one good pool hall. One would think the population would support it but I guess not or there would probably be one. I'd have thought one or more of the Indian casinos would open one. They could certainly control any gang/drug type activity. But I suppose they figure the game is conducive to gambling and they don't want anything that would attract people from the gaming tables and slots for an activity they wouldn't be getting a taste from. But on the other hand for the same reason it might attract gambling types into the casino that had a room.

A couple of years back, i was bar hopping with a friend. I think one was Bananas.. is that the bar on the other side of 111 from the palm desert mall? It had a couple of barboxes, but nobody there playing but us. With so much open space and hot weather, you'd think it wouldn't be that hard to get people into a room down there.

Is there anything up near Yucca?

Sounds like you've got a pretty nice place to play up there and plenty of competition. If you hear of a tournament around town, please let me know so i can check it out next time.

One of these days, ill find a game while on vacation.

Here's a partial shot of the room. I think there are 8 tables actually. 4 more just like this out of frame to the right. That photo wasn't staged, whenever I walked in there the balls are racked like that, lol! I have a Gold Crown at home. When I play at the desert room I enjoy the pleasant "click" of the balls dropping in the leather pockets. If it was up to me they would be Diamonds or Gold Crowns but they are well maintained nine footers and they play pretty good.
