what is a "saver"? I have seen this term in a few threads and have never heard it before. I know it is a gambling term, but most of my gambling is done on a golf course.

I am by no means an expert on this subject, but I'm pretty sure it is when two players that make it to the finals make a side deal to split the money. Sometimes the player that made it through from the winners bracket will get a larger percentage.

How about when two guys meet for a heads up match? For example Schmidt and Harriman meet up and they do a "saver". How does that work?

I'd never heard the term before, but from the context it seemed evident to me. They were competing for a prize of x dollars, the "saver" was an agreement that the loser would get y dollars regardless. I don't think it was a split, more like a reserve so the loser would be "saved" from leaving with nothing.
That might be wrong, but it seemed like that to me.

Thanks. That is what I thought as well, but was unsure. I know these guys have backers and was not sure how ethical that is with a backer unless the backer gets a piece of the saver. Just my opinion.

I have heard that at some tournaments plays agree ahead of time to share some money. This prevents one player from leaving empty handed. I don't know if this is what saver means.
