Parica beat Efren in world finals?

Yep, that's Ronnie Alcano. :)

The picture was taken immediately after the player on Jose's right defeated Ronnie in the finals, 9-zip, at a Joss Tour event in Connecticut, I think it was. It took everybody close to an hour to find a good seat to sweat the finals, a final match that was over within 15 minutes. :grin-square:

I was there for that one, JAM -- it was 2002 at Ultimate Billiards in Berlin, CT. It was the first time I had seen Alcano play, and he looked pretty invincible while warming up. Then, as you say, Keith blitzed him.

I think that was Alcano's second second-place finish in a row on the Joss Tour, and I don't think he had won on that tour to that point. But then he won maybe the next five events he played in and dominated that tour the way Dennis Hatch has of late.

Thanks for the memory.

I somehow understand how or what Parica is feeling. he was the top dog of Philippine pool, yet was never as popular or celebrated as the number 2 Reyes was when they came in the States. kinda felt like an insult or felt neglected if you ask me.

Reyes became a worldwide pool Icon while Parica is only as good as beating Reyes on a consistent basis which hardly made any impact to the pool world then to be considered as a headliner. atleast let the man savor those particular personal accomplishments. besides, which particular player had successfully defeated Reyes consistently as Parica did? I don't think longtime Rivals such as Archer, Bustamante, Earl, Sigel, Varner, etc... did as many times as Parica.

having said that, I believe people in general cannot be faulted into celebrating Reyes more than Parica. Reyes just simply had the Charisma and most if not all the big tournament wins to back it all up. fact is, Parica is missing 2 of those. if only he gets one of those factors, I believe people would start recognizing him more. and NO, people don't necessarily talk about how you are able to beat a great player, but rather how you win big and win the hearts and respects of the audience.

my advice to Parica, win a world crown. although a Masters or U.S. Open will do.
