Parting Tool Blades

I have something similar to that, but if you are going to be parting rings, you can't do anything too thin.

You can buy some carbide blades from KJ here and there's a guy that sells a Dremel Tool holder that fits in your tool post. You can cut paper thin rings with that setup.

I know KJ recommends a 1/4 inch shank for the Carbide blades, but I've been using just a quick release dremel mandrel that I bought at Home Depot and it works just fine.

Tony,
I have a dremel setup for rings. Actually I am looking for some better cut off wheels than I have currently. I bought several off fleebay and they are not too good.

Just a reminder in case you didn't read Tony's post. I sell carbide saws that have a .035" kerf. On my setup, I routinely cut rings at .010/.015" in maple. Do a search and you'll find some very noteworthy builders here have had some very positive comments on these saws.

I'm not into high-pressure sales or 'in your face' advertising but if you're looking for a high quality saw that will do the job, I'd be happy to sell you some of these.

Could you post a picture of your set up with this blade and give a price. Also do you sell the mandrel to hold the blade. I bought one on eBay with I think it was an1/8th inch mandrel and the thing bend itself on the first try and scared the f''''' out of me.It was a real eye opener.

Hello,
I don't supply the mandrel. There are plenty available on the open market. Try and find one that fits a .3125" hole (in the saw). If you are having trouble finding one of that size, get one that supports a .375" and trim it down. I strongly suggest a 1/4" shank because of just what you've experienced. If you really can't find one let me know. They are available near me in 3/8" size and I could trim it for you at a reasonable additional cost.

The blades are $10.ea.+ $3. shipping. I'm running them on a trim router and I believe others use a trim router as well.

Sorry for the HUGE pics. I tried to post the 'direct link' to Photobucket but AZ garbled the URL, twice. This got the job done in the least amount of time. Thanx, KJ

Howdy Mate,
So very glad to hear the saws arrived. I'm always concerned when a pkg. leaves my hands until it arrives.
You've obviously seen my set-up and that's basically a trim router.
Mounting is a preference. My cue shop is located in the same building as my weld/machine shop and fabricating aluminum is 'cake' for me.

Trim routers can be hand for as little as $20 & up. How often you're going to use it should help you determine how much you want to spend. Ebay might be a good source. Used would be OK as long as it's in good condition.

Since most lathes vary in their compound dimensions you'll want a mount specific for your lathe. If you can make your own, that's great. If you want assistance, it's best to find a machine shop in your area.

Yeah, some can scream a little bit. If it bothers you, wear ear protection. I do sometimes when I'm tapering handles. The router on that lathe just wails. If I were cutting metal like that it would be considered shrapnel.
