I lived in Metairie Louisiana for two years where I got married, started my teaching career and really started getting serious about becoming a better pool player. I don't visit quite as often as I should, but there isn't an infinite amount of time and all the other necessities in life have a way of being put first.
I consider Buffalo's to be a microcosm of the rest of the New Orleans area. While it has a list of imperfections that persons of higher standing may find intolerable its still in my mind the perfect room and a special place. The Diamond pros and proams are one of its strong suits, but its the people that make the place what it is. It's a collection of good players, not so good players, gamblers, eccentric characters, but above all folks that take the time to learn your name and get to know you even if you are a complete stranger.
While I can't say I was a complete stranger I still got better treatment than I get at some family gatherings. JoeyA and LocknLoad introduced me to everyone and made me feel right at home. I played Joey some and although he wasn't really baring down he shot me full of holes. We sat around and talked about just about everything, laughed and really had a good time. What makes Buffalo's unique is what makes New Orleans unique, its a place where there is still a strong since of community. People know each other to a degree that is unheard of in other sectors of our society. People there take time to stay connected to each other and are welcoming of people who come in.
