Payouts- Your Opinion?

Does anyone else think that 6th-2nd place should be paid a little more, maybe add $10,000 to each of them and make 1st place just $300,000? No matter what, this is great for the pool players.

I am also wondering if all of the tournament payouts are going to be this lopsided, i.e. a huge difference between 1st and 2nd place, and the top 6 getting a low amount.

This is not a complaint, just an inquiry.

I think the disparity between 1st and 2nd will always be great -- more than other pool tournaments, certainly. This will be more incentive for players to win 1st place, and it will also help to curtail dumping when the difference is $250,000+

.

$40,000 for 6th place and you call it a low amount? Ha Ha

How much is the US Open going to pay for 1st?

And yes the rest of the payouts will be lopsided also. You can go to the IPT website and see what the payouts will be.

You are correct, the payouts need tweaking and Im sure they will be. The round from 17k to 30k was worth 13k, the next round only jumped 10k to a gauranteed 40k. So their was a bigger jump in cash earlier in the tournament, somebody screwed up hopefully theyll fix it soon becaue the guys that make it to the last 6 deserve a greater share of the pie IMO. make it 250k, a cool 1/4 of a Million and spread the 100k, wouldn't thise look nicer(same total)?

1st Place $250,000
2nd Place $150,000
3rd Place $100,000
4th Place $75,000
5th Place $60,000
6th Place $50,000

I doubt they "screwed" up. Tournament payouts have been wacky for the last ten years. The US Open is famous for one round being worth a $1500 and the jump to the next higher round being worth $500. Tommy kennedy was walking around depressed because he got 17th place and $1700 for a week's play.

Look at the payouts for most events, both amateur and pro and you'll find that most of them have seemingly illogical payouts.

I think that the players who did receive the larger amount at the 17K jump appreciated it. If you will check the payout schedule for the remaining tournaments you will see that next month the gap between 1st and 2nd will be $350,000.

To the victor goes the spoils. No one remembers who came in 2nd.

All it means is that the players had better be in top form and ready to play. Glad to see that all the complainers, crybabies and bad boys of pool fell by the wayside. Yeah, that applies to Earl too. He needs a serious attitude adjustment if he wants to be successful with the IPT.

Thorsten and Manalo sure are two great examples of the future of pool and will be great ambassadors for the sport and role models for up and coming players.

Your suggestions might have a bit more merit if you used "there" instead of "their". Most likely the elete crew at the IPT stopped reading when they got that far.

And even though starting a sentence with "And" is allowed under poetic license I refrained from doing so here.

I'll take it as a compliment that the only things you could find fault with in my most post was my spelling! But then again, youre just a born skeptic, or is it sceptic  lol Didn't think you'd disagree with the payouts. :D

1pocket, your correct other tournaments do screw up also, but you'll note I didn't say they didn't I was simply giving my opinion to the threads question.

I think you'd be amazed at how many players would vote for a fairer split, but before you both start this doesn't mean they hate the IPT lol!

Craig,

I don't disagree with you. Just pointing out that aside from the size of the prize fund and the payouts to last place, the disparity of the payout levels from round to round are somewhat typical. Except for 1st and 2cnd place. I just can't fathom playing for a quarter million dollars.

Life changing money!

Thorsten's 65,000 for winning the WPC changed his life and allowed him to pursue his career in pool. What will happen now.

It's like he said, maybe players will be able to get personal trainers to make them healthier people and better players. I predict that the overall skill level of the top players will increase greatly in the coming year.

Sarah Ellerby made $10,600 this week for her playing. Second place in Peoria pays $8,000.

I think the girls are going to be practicing HARD like everyone else.

That looks mich nicer to me, I agree.

Also, it would make more sense to have a less abrupt payout structure when it comes to ranking the top players by yearly earnings and choosing the King of The Hill. The player who wins the World Open and pockets the 500k is almost a lock to end up as King of the Hill, unless the winner of the NA Open also ends up winning one of the two final events. I mean, first place in the World Open is worth more than the combined total of second place in all 4 events. It's also worth the same as winning the last two events and coming second place in the NA Open.

craig, of course the players would vote for fairer splits in the prize money, as it effects a greater number of players and they all "play" the odds.

But there is a lot to be said for having the winner have a huge payday. It shows that the most skilled. hardest working and luckiest that day gets a tremendous reward.

It is also the reason that the ipt is geting such tremendous interest. The 1st prize payout is the number that will grab the casual viewer/player, not a 70k payout for 5th place.

I am glad to see the ipt has officially started.

I am even happier to see thorstenwin it, congrats.

I like your timing! :D

PS
I don't think the casual observer would notice a difference between 250k and 350k, in fact 250k is probably more than Snooker has had in recent years anyway and that attracts hundreds of millions!

Playing a race to 8 for 100k would still be thrilling and it would reward the players that made the final 6 a little more, not to mention 3 players walking away with 100k+. Just MO, but I think the payouts can be tweaked for the better.

What a tournament though!!!
