Payouts ...

Are they paying out MORE than a 1/4 of the field
because of the $500 entry fee?

Seems to me like $40,000 is not very much for
a tournament of this size and caliber. Should be
more like $60-70,000 for 1st place.

They are paying 3/8th of the field. That is why 1st place is $40,000.

It seems that some tournaments are changing the percentage of payouts to 3/8th instead of the usual 1/4th. At least more people get something out of their participation.

$200,000 prize fund for 96 players is not bad.
