Paypal Goods and Services vs Friends and Family

I use my AMEX through PayPal. If I have an issue, I file with them and 9 times out of 10 they will side with the cardholder if there is a dispute.

They don't spend our money keeping up roads and infrastructure. Hell, they are trying to pass a separate, record setting spending bill for that. The schools are disgraceful. An unforgivable disservice to more than one generation of Americans.
No money to care for our veterans while we send billions to Ukraine.

This government sucks.

Use a credit cars to fund all purchases online or by PayPal ect. If there is trouble, chargeback is your best protection.

I think in most transactions the party that need the extra layer of protection is the buyer. In fact, that extra layer of protection may be the factor that makes the sale happen.

It is far more likely the buyer will be screwed by a bad seller then the other way around.
As far as discussion about fees, as a buyer I don't want to hear it. It is assumed that when the price was agreed appon, this was figured into the price by the seller.
As a buyer I had no protection except to set up a sting on my own. Law enforcement, ebay, Paypal they do not care. The moral of the story, you are better off buying from someone you know, that has skin in the game, OR has great community feedback.

Seller made a mistake

I have sold over a million dollars on ebay, some here, some on knife and watch forums as well. What I have learned is do not take FF only do GS. As a seller I always include shipping and PP fees on forums and I factor in taxes, on ebay I charge shipping and factor in my fees/taxes. I always have the buyer reply with shipping info in a PM on forums so there is no confusion where it goes and leaves a proper trail of communication and I reply with tracking. I always add tracking in PP on their payment to protect both of us. I have had buyers break items or alter them attempting to return, I just remind the buyer I knew where they live and that ends the problem. As a seller if you allow yourself to be scammed then that is on you, a plane trip to resolve a multi thousand dollar deal would be well worth it to me.

Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's.

That's exactly what Brutus was doing, he had borrowed Ceasar's knife. :)

Of course buyers have no inherent right to dictate to a seller how to market or price the items they offer for sale. However, buyers do have the choice of with whom they deal, so if many buyers seem to want one all-inclusive price then it is probably in the seller's best interest to accommodate them. If a seller is worried about the credit card or PayPal fees making their item seem too expensive they can always offer a discount for payment methods that cost the seller less or nothing at all. Nearly all gas stations use this strategy with their "standard" price and their "cash discount" price displayed together.

I have had the last three transaction on FB fail. Sellers will not take Goods and Services.

Fair warning to everyone if you send your money friends and family there is no way to get it back if something goes wrong.

Even if the guy you are working with has 100+ positive reviews accounts can get hacked. You don't know whom you are dealing with.

As for the IRS anything over 600 being taxed. If you are making $600+ on a cue more than you paid for it then you have a business that should be paying taxes.
F%^k the IRS.

Nah. I got hit with an eBay 1099 that I wasn’t expecting last year for some trading cards that sold for a few grand. I didn’t have all of the receipts since you really don’t get a receipt when in person paying cash. I just wrote off 75% of those and provided the receipts I did have. No hassles from IRS on them. What is the IRS going to say? You sold a $3000 cue that has been around that price for 10-20 years and you didn’t pay at least $2500 for it?

Oh and g+S all the way. If the sellers don’t like the fees too bad. A lot of sellers I’ve bought from over paypal have you add the 3.5% in there if paying that way.
I thought 1099s didn't start until this year

Are you still brokering high end cues?
Yes, and as per our policy you have 48 hours to look the cue over, hit balls, and make sure it's what I told you it was or your money back. Which is why I don't take G/S payments. My 25 years, my partners near 40 years, I think we'll be here a while. (To the dismay of some lol :) )

What I worry the worst is getting paid good and services. Send the cue off. They get it and claim it didn't arrive asking for their money back. PayPal investigates. Usually PayPal favors the buyer. Happened a couple of times with me. I also own a saddle shop. What happens when they believe the buyer? You're now out.
This is even more likely if they file a chargeback with their credit card company. They are not going to side with a seller.

I thought 1099s didn't start until this year
Well in Illinois last year it was something like at least $1000 or 5 transactions. I only had 4 transactions but it was more than $1000. Bs if you ask me. Federal government was supposed to be $20000. But eBay sent them the 1099 also. Let’s just say I had some words with eBay on that one….I have to pay federal tax on something people in other states don’t?
