How long can you expect the bearings in your router to last before they need changing???

I know it depends on how much you use it but under, lets say moderate usage..... what??? 6 months .... a year....

My bearings gave up after 8 months. It started to make funny growling noises and my calipers kept dancing around and falling of the tool tray.

I had to run out and buy a new one at Lowes. I got a dewalt. It's the same thing with a yellow cover. It was $80 and works great. Now I have to buy new cutters as they are dulling up.

thanks

bearings

It depends on how much you use it. My first 2 had better quality bearings compared to the newest one came with Chinese bearings. Replace with the best bearings you can afford. I also added a shim to the top cover to take up some slop. Running a variable control will definitely add life to bearings and brushes. If the cutter isn't chipped or broken, touch it up with a fine grit diamond file, trying not to change the geometry of tips. After tightened in collet check the runout with a indicating device and trimmed mounted securely. When using broken in old cutters that have been touched up already I would try to get all tip runout to as close to deadnuts as possible. These tips should help out as much as possible besides going out and buying more precision tooling. Some of upgrade when we can if we can.
Good luck, Mike
