Pechauer Pro - OB-2 or OB Classic Pro

Hey everyone been a lurker for a while now since my original screen name never got unlocked to post, anyway here is goes:

I've returned to pool after a long hiatus and now I'm ready to add a LD shaft to my Pechauer SE1 (FWIW I love this cue and think it was a great value at sub $160) I've settled on an OB 11.75mm shaft but I'm agonizing over which shaft I'd be happiest with, the OB-2 or Classic Pro. In my mind I'm thinking maybe the softer hit of the OB-2 would complement the SS jointed Pechauer butt and I'd have the least deflecting shaft they make. Or maybe it's worth it to lose a little deflection (anyone know the margin between the two?) to get the crisp hit of the Classic Pro. I'm just starting to get my centerball shotmaking halfway decent so I'm pretty much working from a clean slate when it comes to left/right english. Any input is appreciated!

Welcome to AZ.
I have found when I've played with any of the wood ferruled
OB's,they felt great for touch shots and finesse but when it came
to powering a ball I don't like them.I almost feel that buckeling affect.
I found with the Classic the hit feels much more sturdy on power
shots but with less feel. For me I would rather lose some of the feel
and increase the stability.Goodluck Scott:smile:

Thanks for the input! Even though I prefer the maple ferrule on the OB-2 aesthetically (have yet to see anyone shooting with one) I pulled the trigger on the Classic Pro. I'll post an update after I've played with it for a bit.

Please do post your impression of the Pechauer/ OB classic combination. This is exactly the comination I've been considering.

Alright so I've played with the OB Classic Pro for a couple of nights now and I have some first impressions:

- The threads are tighter, it takes a bit of effort to get it threaded properly vs no effort with the stock shaft, kind of a bummer

- The 'feel' is very similar to the stock shaft, it makes me wonder what the OB-2 feels like. There is a slight difference in sound but I think it's due to the slightly harder Emerald tip on the stock shaft; I might be looking to go with a harder tip then the Everest on the Classic Pro when the time comes.

- I like the smaller diameter tip, seems like more CB to work with now though it did make me focus more on my PSR which I need anyway. I was unsure how I'd like the taper but it feels fine.

I don't think I have used it enough nor have the skill level to fairly judge how it plays but at first impression it seems easier to put alot of english on the CB if desired, but I never felt the stock shaft was lacking in that regard. I'll post an update after I've played with it a little more and maybe get some other players' impressions.

The threads should be pretty close to what you're used to. If they are noticably tighter than that, then we need to make sure everything is ok. First, put a little wax on the pin of your cue and see if that loosens it up. You can use a little paste floor wax if you have some. If not, you can even use a chapstick, it works as good as anything. Sometimes, the brass can have a small bur and interfere with the threads going together. The wax will lubricate the parts so they just slide right past the bur instead of sticking to it and keeping it interfering with the joint

If that doesn't fix the problem, call us so we can dig in a little deeper. Don't worry, we can get it working just right for you

Thanks for the response!

I tried a little Q Slick because it was all I had and it did help a little, I'll try to look for something a little thicker though. It seems like it's just a maybe 30 degree spot where if the shaft and butt are mated the threads jam up... I'm already getting used to it though.

Been able to play a few more sessions since my last update:

I ran the MOFUDAT a few times with the OB Classic Pro expecting to have a harder time with the smaller dia tip, come to find it a bit easier to get the CB coming back straight to tip... unexpected because I've found on longer shots I'm tending to undercut some; on a cross table shot with a slight cut I'm used to aiming straight on then realigning slightly, more often now I'm hitting these as if I didn't adjust from a straight shot.

The thread alignment issue seems gone now; I haven't had any hangups putting my cue together the last few sessions.

I find myself going to a closed bridge alot more now, I don't if it's because my open bridge feels less comfortable with this shaft or that my closed bridge feels less comfortable with a larger dia. shaft.
