traded my Joss in and just bought a Pechauer Cue. was wondering a couple of things:

1) do Pechauer Cues have those real "whitish" shafts? not sure what the terminology is, just seems like they are alot lighter than normal

2) can you get a Predator Shaft for a Pechauer Cue?

appreciate any info here.

Don't know about the weight being any different, but I have heard people I know that play w/ Pechaeurs say they're very well balanced. I'm curious about the shaft color too, I'm picking mine up this evening. I waited about 7 weeks for it. I saw on a website, can't remember which one, that you can get a predator shaft instead, or in addition to the Pechaeur one. It might have been AZ's site, under ques. If I find it, I'll forward it on. Which one did you get?

seems like i read somewhere that Pechauer has much "whiter" shafts than most cues. i believe some cues have shafts bleached, but i dont think Pechauer does this.

mine is #4 on the Platinum Billiards website. i traded my Joss in to get this one. once i get it i am gonna send it to Jerry P. and have it tweaked to get it exactly the way i like it.

let me know what your shaft looks like when you get it, ok RDRobinson?

I have a Pechauer with a stock shaft and a custom fitted predator. The Pechauer shaft is very white. Some people like that, some don't. They'll make the shaft dimensions anything you want. They'll also make a custom fitted predator if you want.

Enjoy!
cheers,

I've seen quite a few Pechaur shafts, and they are kind of white, but they are just bleached. If you look at the grain of wood most of them have, it's low quality. They are very nice looking cues, but I don't understand why they use such crappy wood for their shafts (from what I've seen).

My Pechauer came with 2 shafts (regular color was a bit off-white). I had a Predator Shaft fitted. It plays SUPER, the hit says it all & the balance is magnificent. The Cue weighs 20 oz. & you'd bet good money it weighed 17 oz.
I also use a Predator BK Shaft on my BreakRAK Break Cue. CB

I have a Pechauer with two shafts and I got a Predator shaft for it. I played with the Predator shaft for quite a while and then when I was getting a new tip put on it, the people that were doing the tip lost my shaft. No problem; they replaced the lost shaft with a brand new one and included a Moori tip. However, during the time I was waiting for my Predator shaft, I realized that I liked the Pechauer shafts better so I never went back to playing with the Predator shaft.

I also have a Pechauer with 2 shafts. I prefer to play with the predator because I like the taper and feel. I dont like the taper on the Pechauer it seems to thick. Its not bad but I hardly ever use it. I will regular shafts but for some reason I wasnt to keen on the Pechauer. Im having an Omen cue made with two stock shafts, no predator, made to my specs. I like the taper on Omen cues.

I'll probably put a photo or two of it in the que gallery. That is if it ever gets here. I expected it here this week on Thursday, but not yet. I've never heard or read anywhere that Pechaeur uses "crappy" wood for their shafts, and I really don't think they bleach their shafts either.

I'm curious about the comment about "crappy" wood. What would define crappy maple? I'm genuinely curious. I have heard that in order to get a "whiter" maple wood, you have to use wood that has more spacing between the grains...which means that the wood is less dense? Hence some people consider it weaker I guess. I really don't know.

My Pechauer shaft is thicker than the predator. But since Pechauer will make any taper you want, I don't think it is possible to generalize and say that their shafts are this or that.

I had the opportunity to acquire 100 pcs. of shaft dowels from Pechauer back in the late 90s and did notice their very white color. I have been made aware that this is what they called "snow whites" and comes from logs chosen by Jerry personally. I've heard nothing but good things about the shaft material and the taper really comes standard "big" so that the customer would have the leeway to have it adjusted to their own liking.
