You can see the message from the Pechauer thread above that I gave. I have a pro series Pechauer and I prefer the 314/2 to the OB1 but I think either would be a performance upgrade to any standard shaft on the current crop of production cues. The echauer and Predator companies have had 2 joint projects and Predator (when I spoke to them) think that the Pechauer butt is a particularly good combination. Someone mentioned $2K. For that money I'd also go with a top notch custom/made to order cue, but if you stick with a Pro series pechauer butt and an OB1 or 314/2 shaft you only have to pay something like $400 to $600 to get a really nice Pechauer cue with either an OB1 or Predator shaft. And the performance will rival any cue available. What you give up in the "hit / feel" area that a $2K custom cue gives you, you'll make up for in performance because of generally higher deflection in any standard shafts. That's why you see many of the top custom cue makers offering the Predator or OB laminated shafts, usually with a $250 up charge and even though their shafts are really high quality.
As far as comparing any Viking with any Pechauer butt....it's no contest, in my opinion....Pechauer is simply a cut above Viking as far as fit-finish- solidity, etc.. My cue is finished very well and you can run your hand up and down the butt from the excellent Pechauer Speed Joint to the end of the butt and you cannot feel anything but smoothness. The costruction, especially the way Pechauer does the A-Join (forearm/handle joint) gives you a one piece feel and the balance is really right where most players like it. My balance point with the 314 shaft is right at 18.75", which eliminates that typical production cue "butt heavy" feel, which can really ruin the way the cue feels....especially in the speed control sensitivity area. Just my opinion, but mostly anyone you ask will tell you that Pechauer is a realcut above Viking. I'd say that the Pechauer is more in line with the industry standard production cue which is Schon. And I'd still prefer the Pechauer as far as the weighting with a laminated premium shaft...including the generally heavier Schons.
