Thanks Mr. Webb, Mr. Desert1pocket and Mr. Wadsworth, I had never heard about backthreading. I always use 3/8x10 wood-to-wood so I'll make sure and backthread next time.
They are using a short phenolic core with a flanged face on uniloc also, what they do is thread the phenolic od into the shaft, then the brass uniloc od is installed into the phenolic core. I have one here that someone had shattered after some hard luck on the tables The phenolic od is bonded so well to the wood that I can't pick the wood out of the threads with a razor to see what type of thread was used, so the bond works very well. The OD on this one is both mechanical & adhesive. I work on alot of them, but for some reason I don't get many in with the radial threads, so I can't speak for those.
