CFCE349B-7B96-497C-BC97-EB835153A1F3.jpgHey guys... How is the best way to tell the difference of phenolic? Like what is usable for cues or not.... The reason I ask is, I bought 2 pieces at an auction about 1" thick and 2ft x 4ft .... It is a gray color... I also got some pieces 1' wide by 1/2" thick by 2ft long greenish color.... Looks like G-10. I can see some weaves in is.... The was a 36" x 2" round black delrin rod, a 1" round black delrin rod, and some other pieces I will have to dig out. It was a pallet lot.... I can post pictures tomorrow.

If you haven't seen it use before...then try turning some of it, finishing, and let us know :)
Canvas is a larger weave, linen is tighter, and paper is useless for the most part.

lol.... I have cut down a G-10 ferrule before and it was super hard..... Does this look like linen to you?

When it comes to canvas or linen based phenolic it is suitable for cues if you like the looks of it. It really is that simple. Just a looks thing.

If it's fiberglass, and it looks like it to me, good luck with your tools! If it's light greenish, it's likely G10/FR4 which is a fire resistant material. You can cut that stuff with carbide but the tools wear fast. I used to rout a lot of the stuff, but with PCD endmills. Which are super-expensive.
