Phenolic tip vs Leather tip

I've been seeing break cues with phenolic tips on them and I was wondering if you could use them as a playing tip. To me this would be a great asset. Tips would last almost forever and no mushrooming. But I'm consurned about miscueing and maybe not getting the english that I want.

If anyone has some thoughts on this subject please feel free to chime in.

I will put it this way, I will play anybody in the world if they want to play with a phenolic tip on their cue.

What penolic tip?

I have tried phenolic tips on break cues and see no need for them. The layered water buffalo tips I have been putting on, for over three years now, break just as hard, but with control over the cueball. Every single player who has tried breking with one of these tips is amazed by how much better their break is and still control the cueball. They all thought it was not possible to break hard and squat the rock. They just needed to get away from phenolic tipped break cues!

Amen

Bought a JJ B/J stick with phenolic tip and shortly switched to Talisman BK hard leather for control on the break.....

Anybody remember porpers ram tip? I still have some of the mediums. From what I could tell, it was just a soft plastic. Even the "hard" ones were soft. But either way, they were meant to be a playing tip, you really couldnt play with them though. They glazed super quickly, and wouldnt grab the ball even when well groomed and chalked.
