Only 6 players left: Gallego, Van Corteza, Manalo, Pagulayan on the one loss side and Lining , Orcullo in the winner's side.

The winner of the Gallego vs Corteza match will face Dennis Orcullo while the winner of the Pagulayan vs Manalo match will match-up with Antonio Lining

According to earlier reports, Dennis Orcullo is in stroke and looks unbeatable at this point. If ever he wins this tournament, he will have a lot of confidence and momentum in his upcoming match with Yang next month.

Look at my man, Corteza rock and roll.
THANKS!

Is a Pagulayan-Orcullo final still possible?

It is a possibility. If Pagulayan wins his do-or-die match against Manalo
and win again against Lining, and Orcullo hurdles the winner of the
Corteza/Gallego match then, we have a dream match-up!

ABC5, a Philippine based TV station. We can't do anything but wait for
some kind-hearted soul to upload it at Youtube!

Latest updates... Manalo over Pagulayan / Corteza over Gallego / Corteza over Orcullo

Lee Van wins over Gallego while Manalo prevails over Alex Pagulayan (sorry Phoebe).

So the final 4 players were Corteza, Manalo, Lining and Orcullo. These 4 players I believe are already assured of joining the 2007 WPC to be held in Manila again.

Then Corteza wins over Orcullo 11 to 10. Oh boy, this might have been quite a match!!! It is a bit unfair though for Dennis because only 1 loss and he was out while Corteza already lost 1 game and yet is in the finals.

No word yet on who won or is winning in the Lining vs Manalo match. I hope Manalo wins. We have not heard about him winning any tournament for a long time. I would not want such a talented player such as him to fade into obscurity. The winner of the Lining vs Manalo match will face Corteza in the finals.

It is Manalo vs Corteza in the finals!!!!

Just read that Manalo won over Lining and will now face Corteza in the finals!!! What a strong comeback from Marlon. Losing one game from the winner's side then winning 4 straight games yesterday and now 2 games today over Alex Pagulayan and Antonio Lining.

Who do you think will win? I am hoping for Marlon Manalo to win this but Lee Van is showing everybody that he has what it takes to be the next pool superstar out of the Philippines.

I will pick Manalo anytime but I have a signed cue from VanVan Corteza :D

I'll go for Marlon! Good luck Marlon!!

What type of crap format is this? Orcullo and Lining make it all the way to the semifinals with zero losses, only for both to be booted immediately from the tournament after their first losses in the final 4. Meanwhile, Manalo and Corteza advances to the finals both with one loss each?

If they do double elimination all the way to the semifinals, why not fully carry it out all the way through? It's not like they'll be adding 10 more matches. I'd understand switching to single elimination for the final 16...but the final 4? That's garbage.

Sweet! Tough win over Orcullo for sure. I am glad to see the killer come out in Lee Van. It just makes it sweeter all the time. :-)

Our main reason in implementing that is to not confuse the viewer when it comes to the final four. The normal viewer finds the concept of a double-elimination ladder difficult to comprehend as it is. In a normal double-elim stepladder, trying to explain to a layman viewer who just lost the match before a final is going to face the guy again because he won the loser's bracket final is just too confusing.

Hey, I totally understand. I do hate it when people cut matches to race to 7 for TV. It's unfair for the player. But the semifinals-final cutoff makes it simpler for a viewer to understand what's at stake and is a good compromise, especially when you consider that Loser's bracket players play more matches to get to where they are.

Cuycuy, though your system may be flavored with good intentions, try
explaining to Dennis and Nikoy why they didn't get a second chance like the
others. We need to educate the general pool public how a double-elim
stepladder works, and they don't have to be rocket scientists to understand the
concept. Just like what Billie Jean said, "Fair is fair!"

I think the format is just fair. the players on the losers' bracket have to play more opponents (due to ties in W-L) inorder to reach the final four while the undefeated players have already the luxury of waiting for their semis matchups.

I don't think it should be a big deal that the final 4 is changed to single elimination. All the players were probably been told exactly how it's going to be.

You can not complain after the fact.

You can only get this in Asia if you are inside the footprint of Aguila II. You get the Dreams Sat Decoder and select Channel 4, which is ABC5 a local Philippine Channel.

I am bummed......but it's ok.....on to squeezing the next tournament!!! lol

My pick, VanVan will take this one. VanVan took out Orcullo which makes me think he's gotta be in dead stroke.

But, Manalo is pretty steady so I'm about 52% VanVan, 48% Manalo

The format was fair as all the participants were informed of it before the start of the tournament. What is worst, to me, is when organizers advertise a true double-elimination tournament then have a single long race for the finals instead of having the winner side player be twice-to-beat. huh?!!

Congratulations are in order for the organizers, they handled the whole event, and some, superbly!
