I don't know what to think. It seems that a few of the countries did not send their best players, like Taiwan or the USA. I think the Scorpion should be there, or Ralp, Wu, Fong etc. But anyway congratulation to the team Philippines.

Germany should have had Souquet and Hohmann. They're the only ones who could've given Reyes and Bustamante a challenge.

Congratulations to Team Philippines!

best player

Just what I was thinking! If Archer would have been there, things would have been different. Even pool has bcome political.

pardon my ignorance, but care to expound on that? are you saying that someone conspired to have earl and rodney on the team, or made sure that archer wasn't in it?

I don't know about the US team, and I will certainly not use the word conspiracy, but it is no doubt that other factors than results achieved made a part in the selection of other teams and team members.

e.g. The Swedish team was decided this way: Phonecall from Matchroom to Marcus Chamat - "Marcus, we are having a world cup in pool for teams, and would like you to participate. Can you be there, and pick another player for the team?" The Swedish billiard federation was not involved. No critics to Marcus though, he probably picked the best player, next to him, in Sweden.

Norway did not participate or get invited. A guy in the norwegian billiard federation called Matchroom and asked why not, and the very well founded argument for that was: (exact quote) "We don't like Norway"

So yes, politics play a part in pool..

From what I understand, this was an invitational, not sending representatives by countries pool body. I can't say politics, could be though. Although the outcome might be the same, Philippines capturing the title, but if Hohmann, Wu or Archer were there, there might be some strong resistance. Filipinos clearly dominated the field. Let's see what will be next year.

Yang and Wang Hung-hsiang. But Wang is not the top player in Taiwan although he won few national tournaments.

editorial comment:

With diplomacy like this who needs elected world leaders.
