A friend of mine is going to buy a cue from a guy that sells on ebay. My friend showed me some pics. I have to admit the cues look very nice. I asked him about how they hit/play and so forth. He explained to me that the guy said they are not the straightest cue on the market, but fairly straight. I asked my friend why would u want to buy a cue that the maker says its not straight? He said well I can put a Predator shaft on it and it will be fine. Is that true and are these cues a scam? I mean I don't know much about cues mine is an old Adams cue 1980 about. Does any of this sound right to u guys out there?

Fairly straight?
Who.s the seller cuemaker?

Well, I guess its either straight or not straight.

If what he means by fairly straight is that the warp is so negligible that it will hardly affect play.... i still want a stright shaft (my personal preference)... eventhough I shoot better with a warped one... hehe.

I have been to Thailand and the Phillipines several times and i have bought a couple cues there. The cues look awesome, a lot of inlays with shells and ivory, but the quality is not the best. They look like a lot of money but the shafts went unstraight after a couple months and the finish on the butts got ugly after a while. But this was only the cues i got, i think that some of the cues made there are good, but there is a lot of crap also. If you want a flash cue with a lot of inlays and such i guess they are ok, but if you want a high quality product i think you might be dissapointed.

If you want a high quality product, it will come with a fair price and from a reputable cuemaker. Buying from ebay from a "so and so" called cuemaker/seller who doesn't sign their name on their cues is dubious enough...

buying on ebay

Yeah I agree. My friend says well if I can get a nice stick for a cheap price and put a good shaft on it. I will have a nice stick. I myself shoot with a decent stick made by Helmstetter or Adams from 1980. I like the old style cues or one that is straight. But hey what do I know. He will buy that cheap stick then say dam this thing is junk. Then go out and buy a nice Sneaky Pete like I told him to do.

I Bought One In 2000

I purchased one in 2000, 60 in. made by Bing. Inlays were not the best but a straight, solid hitting cue. I stuck it in the cue rack in my basement. I test hit it now and then and checked straightness. This tall kid comes over because he wants to buy a cue. He picked it up and hit a few balls and asked me how much it was. He liked to craped when I told him $150. Dam cue was straight still in 2005. He loves it, still playing with it, and got a good deal.:D
Purdman:cool:

I also have just purchased two new Phillipino cues for $2,000 made by master cuemaker Edwin Reyes. I know that I got one hell of a deal! Should be here in a week or two.
