A local tournament here in St. Louis for B/C players is being advertised as "Pick your Poison". The format is loser breaks and the loser also gets to choose whether that particualr game is 8-ball or 9-ball. So, every game could be different. I think he is making it a race to 3. Has anyone else ever seen a format like this before? I don't play APA, but I heard that they have a master's division that is similar, but you play so many of one before switching to the other. This can switch from game to game. It sounds kind of interesting and fun.

I've played in something similar. We lagged or flipped for first choice (8 or 9 ball) and after that we switched back and forth. However, the loser racked in this tournament. I think the format you mentioned would be interesting. It might give the weaker players more of a chance.
I like this idea a lot. Sounds like fun.
