Very Nice pic

Thanks.. just fooling ard the cam, and saw the buska pics by Classic Cues in Blue Book...

i wanted to cram all my titlist cues in but it will look cluttered.. just my first attempt.. so i put my fav titlist conversions..a Macassar Ebony and a Gaboon Ebony Titlist as the focus ..

I would like to see you put them on a web-site - as much as you like these, maybe a web-site devoted to Titlists and other early cue conversions?

Hi Scott

Good thinking ,yeah i would think its a good idea.. something along the lines of Tate's Site.. put my decaying brain to some use.

Perhaps i will start with some picture taking of my titlist cues and some research on these old cues. Frankly i dont really know much about them and anyone here who can share any information, or articles with regards
to Titlists, Hoppes, etc will be well appreciated. Probably start off with some simple 2-3 page site.. Rome wasnt build in a day..

Please email any interesting articles u may have to raistchin@hotmail.com

I'm planning on building a page on 'old cues' at some point, but don't have enough to do it justice yet. Here's a before and after of my Hoppe conversion:

Beautiful work! Is it by Rauenzahn?

I have a couple of titlist cues in construction, 5 in fact. But so far... none of them have indulged in my calls in some photography work haha.. but i ought to be grateful, two of their waiting list time is in excess of 6 years..

Anyway once it done, i post pics. i expect 3 to be delivered in Feb.

Best Regards

Yes, it's one of Jerry's. He should also be finishing up an old 'wedge' cue conversion any day now. I've attached my best guess as to what it will look like, based on conversations with JR, but he's designing and cleaning up dents, etc. I'm finding that the Titlist conversions play great if converted right, maybe because the wood is well-seasoned, the straight-grain maple forearms and full-splice...like a Stradivarius? It is an unknown but lighter wood - I would very much like to try a full-splice ebony.

The Hoppe Titlist was converted exactly to my specs: 19.6 ounces and heavy forward-weighted. Jerry also used some very thick leather that has a great feel. I like his shafts, but I have added a 20-25 year old Scruggs shaft and it is a great player.

Wedge cue design below - old snooker butterfly cue with handle wood added and top of trashed butterfly splice cut off.

u are right about the hit. i got hooked on them, because a FULLSPLICE titlist cue hit supremely well. One pet hate of mine though, is to have the titlist cue cut and converted so as to make an impression that the points are close to the joint. Effectively the cue is no longer a fullsplice cue.
Personally the ebony Titlists or Hoppes looks best, and they seem to have the straightest points..
i was told the ebony ones are made by Rambow, but i wont concur on that...
Another thing i was told by a few cuemakers is that to make a proper conversion out of a ebony titlist, the weight would have to exceed 20 Oz

I hadn't thought of that (cutting to 'move up' points). JR achieved a reasonable effect without having to cut the cue;however, by exposing another inch of the points he also made the cue look more like a non-Titlist '70s Brunswick (see the one that ended on ebay yesterday). On the wedge cue he had to cut and insert a handle;otherwise, it would have been too thin at the joint since it was a snooker cue.

Yes, weighting of full-splice ebony cues is an issue - mentioned in the current Blue Book in the Spain bio, but I didn't understand the explanation of how he resolved it.

Good job. With these digitals, I find it hard to get the lighting right with an all white background, but you managed to do it.

Raist, Did you save the "Hoppe" on any of yours?

Also, the 2-piece ones were going for $275-350 up until this week - the last three on ebay went for $535, $561 and $560

i still have 2 original Hoppe Professionals, with excellent decals.

Yeah , i was just thinking the same, it was kinda weird that suddenly the value of hoppe just took off like that.. perhaps they caught my bug here?? haha

Willie Hoppe

Figures.....I just sold mine about a month ago for $340 :( DANG!

IMHO i would never ever sell the case together with the cue, somehow that never fetch good prices on ebay...UNLESS its a matching Fellini, or a case that was made specifically for the cue...

Well in Ebay weird things, and prices happen all the time... there are also trends abound.. u get red hot prices for sigels one day, then the next moment they arent popular no more. Hope the current prices for Hoppies are only a flash in the pan..kekeke..

JOE V--> yeah i regretted the TW haha.. but i will take some better pics..less TW.. i was trying to cramp more cues into the photo without risking looking too cluttered .. And the pic was a fooling ard..turn out not too bad after like 200 pics?

JEFF --> u be amazed how either a simple table lamp/flash can turn out... but one of the major challenge was to remove the reflected glare from the finish ... had to make the flash bounce off the wall...

TATE --> the white background was not on purpose... the mahjong paper was the best thing i have...:D

I think you ruined a great picture of some nice titlists with that junker in the center.

Yeah that TW certainly looks out of place...
