Pin and Joint type opinions

I have also read that the radial pins have more surface area coverage than 3/8 10 pins, but I am curious about whether there is a difference in whether or not the joint is piloted. I ask because I am up in the air on a Stainless Steel joint with a radial or 3/8 10, or an Ivory radial or 3/8 10. Also, I am wondering if having a piloted joint would make a difference or not.

I have a Meucci (Max-1), flat wood to wood joint with I think a 3/8 10 joint and a Lucassi with a quick realease radial and ivory-like joint. The Lucassi has a solid hit, but I can't feel the Qball like I can with the Meucci.

So riddle me this; which configuration, in your opinions, would provide a solid feel with little (no) worry of future loosening?

Lucassi with a quick realease radial

That I have never seen
The Lucassi has a solid hit, but I can't feel the Qball like I can with the Meucci

I dunno how to equate that. The Lucasi has a solid hit but you can't feel the qball well enough.
To me a solid hit is when the cue feels like one piece and you can feel the ball.

I think any joint collar that is properly installed will never loosen.

Sorry for the confusion

Sorry, the Lucassi is a Uni-lock. I was unsure when I posted the thread. Anyway, I agree with the quality aspect of the loosening factor, but the point of a full cue feel I am up in the air with. Both cues feel solid, but the response of the Meucci is much better than the Lucassi. Given my Meucci was made before the red dot and black dot came out, which I believe makes it 100 times better, it may be the shaft that is responsible.

Yet, I am still up in the air as to which configuration to go with. Agreed it is ultimately up to how each feels. I guess I will end up going to a cue maker and trying out all types.

wow a meucci with a 3/8 10 pin. Thats a first cause all meucci's come with a 5/16 18 pin flat faced joint. Its not that the radial pin has more surface area than the 3/8 10. The radial pin is in contact with more of the threads of the shaft because it is made more like a ball screw. The threads on the pin are rounded. That allows for more of the thread on the pin to be in contact with the threads in the shaft. This also causes a much tighter fit. As for the feel and responceness of the cues. Meucci's have always been very lively cues. Its because from the factory they come 12.75mm with a very long shaft tapper instead of 13mm like 95% of cues on the market. Also they bleach the heck out of all there shaft wood which weakens the shaft wood grain and makes the shaft more flexiable. Lucassi has a 13mm shaft with a shorter tapper. Also the butt tapper on the Lucassi is a bigger than on the Meucci witch also caues less feel in the ball transition through the cue. Now joint types and ferrule material will also make cues have different feels as well. Hope this helps
