Places to Play database/category/tab?

I would like to suggest another forum category, or even a dedicated tab (but NOT another sticky, PLEASE!), where players can post reviews of good places to play in their local city, or places they enjoyed on their travels.

This should be formatted in a way where scores could be cumulative, like book reviews on amazon.

It could be organized by state, and then by city. Each entry should include basic information like the adress, hours of operation, perhaps a phone number, smoking/non-smoking, liquor sold, beer sold, food sold, hourly rates, number of tables by type, quality of food, quality of tables, overall rating.

I don't know if the current forum software could accommodate something like this, but it would help players, promote business for pool halls, and encourage owners to keep their standards up.

This would also provide another reason why AZBilliards is THE place to go for pool information.

Good idea, yes or no?

I like this idea - I know there was at one time a google map with pool hall locations from around the world being built, but I think the link got lost in the ether. :(

I like this idea too, but I think it's sort of reinventing the wheel. Go to maps.google.com and type pool halls North Dakota (or wherever you are). There's directions, phone, reviews, everything you could want.

What an AZB forum version would offer (that google or yahoo doesn't) is longer reviews by pretty much nothing but pool players rather than by random people, and that's something I would like to see.

Just about every pool room database and map I have seen has severely outdated information. I have seen areas where I know the rooms have been closed for years, yet they are listed.

Something maintained by us would take care of that. Plus the members here can not only give you the address and phone # but also if it's a good place to play, and probably just as important, WHO to play where and for what.

Ditto. I was in Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago while my wife was at a wedding shower. I had about four hours to kill, and did a little Google research on pool halls in the area I was going to be in. It directed me to two halls within walking distance of my location ... both were closed for business when I got there.

And more often than not, places I looked up had zero reviews as well. It's too bad things like Google and Yahoo don't stay up to date, because it can often leave people in the middle of downtown Minneapolis, suddenly looking for a movie theater instead of a pool hall.
