Places to play in Charleston SC

I just return from Christmas with my Son on Johns Island,SC. He play on the APA League - Check their website. Two places my Son Play North Park Grill and Shady Lady.
He could go to either players place in N. Charleston or West Ashley (the only pool halls with 9 foot tables) In Goose Creek there is Shady Lady, North Park, Weekends, and few more but they are all bars with pool tables. There is a new pool hall w/9 foot tables being opened up by the guy who owns Charleston Billiards it will be in Goose Creek off of 52

I spent most of the summer in charleston and visit there regularly.
Unfortunately all of the rooms there are complete garbage.
Players place has a lot of beat up olhausen 9' tables with SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWW cloth and non-working AC at all the locations. The rest of the tables are 7' valley barboxes with slow cloth.
North park grille is where I primarily played at which has maybe 20 or so 7' valley barboxes with fast cloth and one 9 foot coin operated table.
In summervillle nearby is the best place around called fast break.

Good Pool Rooms?
Charleston doesn't have a nice pool room with good tables. The people who have businesses with pool tables cater to the APA to make money and they don't care about good players or having big tournaments. Shannon Daulton had a few 9 ball tournaments on bar tables here and I thought he had a good turn out, but the normal pool here is APA on bar boxes. There was a rumor about a nice room being built with Diamond tables, but I heard from the owner of the property that that's been put on hold.

It's a shame but SC as a whole has few really good rooms. Grady's in Columbia is the only one I'd really consider endorsing as a quality room. One opened in Florence but, its only got 2 9ft diamonds and the rest bar boxes. I've talked with a number of people who would love to open a really nice room for quaity players but the economy right now is so bad I doubt anyone would do anything risky.
So I would also like to add...and again you need to talk with some locals

I would strongly recommend asking the local's about this place. Somebody referred to it as rusty's I believe.
While you are down there I highly recommend jumping into action. You will find plenty of players willing to gamble and in 90% of the cases I saw it was more like stealing rather than playing.

Rusty has the 2 best playing tables in Charleston its not a pool hall but his house there is action but it isnt stealing by anyones standards.
I respectfully have to disagree with you if you think action in Charleston is stealing. Any where you go you will find weak players who think they can play, but there are quite a few good players here and this was also the home of Tony Ellin before his accident.

Charleston is a weird town.
I saw a handful of players that were actually strong; whereas the average level is a little lower than I've seen elsewhere.

Most of the pool players in Charleston are in the APA league and they are bar table players. I'd agree that you won't find many good 9' table players in the league since it's all about making money for the LO on 7' tables and not top level play on 9' tables. There are some good 9' table players though, but since there isn't a good room with 9' tables it's hard to find the better players. They do play on the bar boxes sometimes and you might run into one of them in some of the hot spots.
