I'll be traveling next week to Jersey City and will be there for a couple of weeks. Anyone know of a good place or two to play in that area? I won't have a car, so will need to either walk or take a taxi. I'd prefer a place with good quality 9 footers (Gold Crowns, Diamonds, etc...) or a nice 10-12 foot snooker table. thanks...

I live in Jersey City. I would advise you to get on the PATH train and take it to Amsterdam Billiards (get off at 14th street) in NYC. It is a 15 minute ride. If you want to hit a few let me know.

Lets see...

Castle on 17 in East RUtherford is reachable...so is Comet Billiards although not sure how the NY players get there but we do have several show up at tournaments..

Castle has a break and run Thursdays Comet has the Game Show weds-thurs-fri and break and runs several of those nights

Feel free to PM me and Ill send ya my contact info Im not that far from where you will be...

and hey Amsterdam is always a great place to go...from what I hear...

I agree with Fleece3 - without a car, probably the easiest thing to do is hop on the PATH train into NYC. Amsterdam is good, but there are other options. Just Google NYC Billiards and I'm sure you'll find other places in Manhattan.
I know there's a place in Hoboken - just North of JC - Willow Billiards and Cafe. Never been there, but heard it's good. You can probably get a cab there at a reasonable price.
Gotham Billiards in North Bergen was pretty good, but I think it's closed now. So call before you try that one.
Comet in Parsippany is a great place, but it's not convenient to JC and my guess is that cab fare would be pretty steep.
Good Luck,
Harry

Thanks for the info. Looks like it'll be Amsterdam billiards on Sat. Sept. 12. I'll be the one looking like a lost tourist! :)

Gotham is closed. It has been for some time.

Being in Jersey City is kind of a "no man's land"(as far as Pool goes). It's a business and retail area, for the most part.

Aside from taking a cab to the mentioned spots, you can take a cab to Herbert's Billiards in Secaucus. That is a nice place and not too much to take a cab to.

Comet Billiards is an awesome room, but not practical if you don't have a car. The cab ride won't be cheap.

The PATH train to Amsterdam is probably your only easy, walk to location (like Fleece said). The fare is $1.75 each way and runs 24 hours (in case you stay out late). ABC is at 11th STREET and 4th AVENUE.

Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!!!

ABC. Willow and Castle will be your best options without a car. There is a train that goes to Rutherford which is within walking distance to Castle. Herberts is not a players room, but they make a great burger.

FYI-9/12/09 there is a Predator pro event at Raxx in LI and a Tri-State BCD at Comet. You'll def need transportation for both.

ABC is awesome room as well but you won't see many players/pro's there on that Saturday due to the Open event at Raxx.

Too funny. Yes, the best place to play in New Jersey is New York!

Seriously, Comet Billiards is not very close to Jersey City but it's definitely worth the trip if you have the time. I would suggest trying to make it down there Friday night for "The Show". It's a lot of fun.

I love Willow Billiards but it's a difficult room to recommend and I'll explain. The people there are all great. It's probably the friendliest room I've ever been to. Seriously, it's so friendly, it makes me want to move to Hoboken.

BUT the equipment needs some work. It really is holding them back from being an AWESOME room.
