Run Of One

Any good places I should check out? Visiting sister in Fayetteville for the holidays, always like to at least take a peek at the local rooms when I travel, play some cheap one pocket, buy a t shirt if they have one...

Cap's Cue Club on Teall Ave. Salt City Billiards N. Syracuse. Korky's Fairmount. Michelles billiard cafe. I have not lived in Syracuse for almost 17 years now but these were the places around when I visited from time to time.

Cap's is at 1895 Teal Avenue, I think. Far as I know Dick Capato's family still owns it. Dick is a player and a real nice guy. Not sure of the addresses for the other places.

Pool in syracuse sucks at best !
The rooms are mostly run down. Balls being of many sizes. Rails being dead. Not many real players to speak of. I don't waste my time going to the rooms anymore. Its all way too boring for me !

Michelles has been gone a few years now. Korky's is for sale at half what he usta ask. Salt City was rumored to be going out last year but he is still there. Cap's would be playing on bare slate if the regulars didn't pay for new cloth this year, but it is getting old fast. It should regress to where it was soon.

Best bet is go to Utica area and find Hippo's House of Billiards.

Too bad, Cap's wasn't like that when we used to go up there from Binghamton.

ummm

Salt City is your best bet. Don't waste your time at, Korky's or Hippos. Tables are horrible IMHO... Caps has good tables; the staff is all freindly, unless you tell them to "shut up" [inside joke]..... Dick still owns Cap's and the players pitched in a few months ago to re-felt the tables...

Salt City just re-did 3 tables with 860 and they are working on the others over the next few weeks.

Rails are good, pockets are buckets, but... The tables for the most part play well.. The balls are old and diffrent sizes except Table 18.

So if you go, ask for table 18.

Thanks everybody, I'll check it out!

i do not play one pocket. if you want a freindly 9 or 10-ball game shoot me a PM. i am only 5 miles from salt city billiards !

i do not play much anymore. i work nights mostly so afternoon is good for me.

Mike,

Sorry to disagree. And I do so vehemently!!!!! Hippo's has Gabriels tables. For the uninitiated, they are a European version of Diamond's Pro model table. Vic Conte and family do a great job of keeping things right. First time I ever heard of someone dissing Hippo's.

I'd have to second that, though I haven't been to Hippo's in a long time. Victor Conte has always been a class guy, as far as I can remember.

Hello all ! Just wanted to pass along some information, I purchased a Falcon break jump cue that had belonged to Dick Capatos . I asked the seller when I purchased it , if they would share any history of the cue …and damn I love history…I will be breaking with it hopefully by Friday 7 October 2022 Thanks all !
