Places to visit in New York

I am holidaying in New York in early April and was wondering what are the places to visit (pool-wise)? Obviously Amsterdam Billiards is one, where else should I be going? Also want to check out some custom cues, are there any retailers in NY?

Note: not looking specifically for action, however I would like to see some good players going head-to-head if I can.

Any/all help appreciated.

abc west...clubby atmosphere and few games.
abc east...more games. better players to watch. robles is housepro
corner billiards...younger college -type.
broadway billiards...watch your wallet and back.
slate...non-pool poolroom. 25watt bulb at each table, for "atmosphere".

Mike Capone from Capone Custom Cues is settled in New York.
38 Wilson Avenue, Mercerville, New York.

And there is a new place a thougt is was the Q lounge, looked very nice in a article in a Pool magazine.

oh yeah. there's that and a place called "pressure" i think. or maybe they're the same. never been but REALLY REALLY expensive.

I believe Mike Capone is out of New Jersey but I could be wrong. Still not too far from the city though.

At Amsterdam on the East Side, there are several semi-pro and pro players, but not much action -- although you might find some good players practicing together. There are also a pair of very strong British players who play there.

At Master Billiards in Queens, you'll find the most action in the city. It's probably one of the nicest and most player-friendly rooms in the entire Northeastern US. (two snooker tables, 6 carom tables, plenty of tight 4 1/2 by 9s, open 24 hours, and plenty of strong players (Ginky SanSouci being the strongest)

Thanks for your help everybody, much appreciated. Looks like we are gonna have some fun.

Gremlin: My wife takes the game far more seriously than I do (which is saying something!). She currently takes lessons from Imran Majid over here and is hoping to try qualifying for a WPBA event in about 2 years. Watch out for her, she plays all the games pretty well (esp straight pool). I don't think she wants to take a lesson from somebody she will be gunning for down the track!!!!!! :)

then definitely go to ABC east and corner. there's where ALL the gals play. on thursdays, there is a team 9ball tourney at ABC east, where, aside from those girls,,,mika and ginky have played, as well as tiffany nelson, i am told. teams play there to build a contingent for las vegas.

hoffsteter is at balukas's place.

Cheers Gremlin, should be a fantastic week. We will definitely try to catch up with some of the players you mentioned and maybe get a game going (assuming they are in town).

Thanks again to everyone for your help.
