Could someone tell me when is the best time to get the best price on plane tickets for the Vegas trade show. I found out last year, waiting til near time to go is NOT the way to go! My thinking was, wait til closer til time to go and maybe they would have empty seats that may not sell and they'll be cheaper. NOT the case at all! Actually, to the other extreme. Costed me and my wife $1600 round trip from Charlotte, NC. Any advice from anyone???

Call just after midnight or maybe 2 am. That is when the computer usually purges all the reservations that have were held but not paid for. You may call at 11:30 p.m. and they have nothing, then call at 12:01 am and they have some of the specials available again. It is a trick I have been using for years. In fact you can ask when the unpaid tickets become available again and they may tell you but it is usually midnight eastern time.

Your talking about the BCA expo in July correct. I just went to expedia.com and us-air has a flight for $387 roundtrip non-stop.

Your best bet would be to make the reservation at least 14 days in advance, but I wouldn't wait until then, since the flights may be sold out for any specials and you would pay the high price.
I will suggest to check the prices on www.kayak.com, it would give you the best price on all airlines. Just remember, you can save the ticket service charge if you do the purchase directly on the airlines website. If you purchase the ticket at the airport or on the phone with the airlines you will usually get charge $20 or $30 extra per ticket. You also get charge a fee if you do it on other site like travelocity, orbitz etc...
Not only that, if you have any changes to make after purchase, it's always easier to talk with the airlines if you purchase directly with them.
So, check prices on Kayak and then go to airlines site to purchase it.
Remember a charge for check bags now.
If you need more infos or help, let me know, I work for the airlines.

Happy search!!!

PS Check also with the convention if they get a 10% discount with the airlines.

I just check for you some prices and got a price starting at $299 and up for July. I don't know the dates you are going but it should range in the $300-$350

We go in May every year

C'mon guys. Any help?

We go to the VNEA or BCA every year. The tourney is in May. I usually start check prices the first of Feb, and just keep checking every 3 or 4 days til I get a good deal. Right now, they are arond $300, but I think they will go down about $30 to $50 sometime in the next month. It's a bit of a gamble.

One important thing to remember when booking flights. Does the airline have a PER BAG fee for luggage. Don't think you have found a great price, and get stuck for bag fee of $25 per bag at the airport. Southwest and Jetblue currently allow the first 2 bags free, plus a carryon. I figure that into my pricing, and they're always cheaper. Don't forget, if you're taking a cue with you, YOU CAN NOT CARRY IT ON. I have a large soft case, made for golf clubs to put clothes and my pool case in. I have had friends put their pool case on the belt as checked luggage and they came up missing.

Hope this helps you out some.

The BCA trade show is July 13th to 16th.

As a previous frequent flier for work, I can tell you that flights are generally at their cheapest about 2 months prior to flight date. This can vary slightly by destination, whether it is on or off peak. Certain days are cheaper for travel as well, so if you can accommodate it, fly in and return on less peak days. Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays are the busiest flight days, and therefore more expensive.

The others are right, be sure to factor in baggage charges. The lowest listed price is no longer the best deal if you are paying an additional $50 to $100 baggage fees roundtrip.
