Planet Pool 9-Ball tournament 2/21-22, Sterling, VA

Keith McCready

Pro Player
The Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour will be having its second tournament of the new season at Fast Break Cafe in Sterling, Virginia.

For more information, check out the website: http://www.planet-pool.com

Come see some of the best players in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia compete. You never know who may pop up here because this is a player's pool room. They come from far and near. Last year, 28 players of this tour competed in the 2003 U.S. Open, including the owner of Fast Break Cafe.

Plus, I will have my designated breaker with me! ;)

Is he really that big or are you that small?

He's really that big, Buddha, and with a heart to match.

You never know who's going to show up on the rail. Meet my designated one-pocket partner. ;)

Wow, where did you find that fruit?! ;)

But on a more serious note, that place is so small, how are they going to manage w/ 100+ players? And only 3 employees!?

That's 5 rounds of matches on 10 tables...Assuming it takes 45 min to play each set...my head swims (but that could be all the smoke... )...

Bring your own chair!! And a book. And a one pocket partner...

If only the place was bigger...

Word of caution: Avoid the elevator! Use the steps!!

Keith,
Is this event smoking or non-smoking?

Hi, Ted. It is a smoking event. The smoking ban hasn't hit Sterling, Virginia.

Here is one of the local champions I drew first round last tournament, had me 5 to 1, racing to 7, but I managed to catch up. They don't come any finer than my friend Kevin West from Delaware, a first-class player, a gentleman, and a non-smoker. ;)

Well Keith & Sonja, that settles it for me. I was thinking about coming up and playing, but can't fade the smoke. I have been there before playing and doing cue repair, and when it gets busy, it gets like a smoke cloud in there. The last time it was a planet pool tourney, and I think I came in second. I think it was the first or second season. I guess I should have made a point to go to Orange Ball two weeks ago! Good luck!

Ted, Fast Break Cafe now has an air-filtering system they got from Jimmy Mack which should get rid of the smoke clouds.

Virginia natives Jimmy Mack and APA Champion "Shorty" Henson will be there.

Keith & Jennie,
Here is a link to a website hosted and maintained by the University of California at San Francisco. It is the most comprehensive website I have seen so far on tobacco use indoors. Follow the link on the left side of the home page that says "Ventilation Hoax," then click on the links that run across the top of that page for more info. Very interesting stuff. If you have time and interest, it might be interesting to check out the rest of the site as well.
