I played 18 holes today with a couple of friends of mine. I've played about 5 rounds in the last 10 years but I do enjoy it every time I play. I don't own a set of clubs so I use my friends Ping's, which I've always liked. Anyway, my friend thinks he's the man to beat on a course but I know better than that. I always add 10 strokes to whatever they say they shoot. Sometimes more, if I know them well enough. This friend of mine can't play pool well either, but thinks he does, so I knew his golf game would be lousy too, especially when he says he shoots in the mid 80's. That's mid to high 90's, in my book. I know that I shoot under a 100, probably 19 out of 20 times that I play, so I knew I had a good shot at beating him. Anyway, we make a small wager, normal bets in an average foursome, skins, birdies, and closest to the pin on par 3's. I tried to get 3 a side, but he didn't know what that meant, so I accepted his wagers. So, I played extremely well, for me, on the front 9, with 5 pars, 1 birdie, a triple bogey on a par 3, and 2 bogeys. I shot 40. He shot 49, lol. Plus I had closest to the pin on the other par 3. Funny thing is, the triple bogey I had, I was on the fringe with my tee shot, then took 5 more to get in, OUCH! So, he's absolutely sick after the front 9, his back hurts, his head hurts, it's cold, it's hot, can't find his cigarettes, needs a beer, and he's tired. The back 9 he got a par on the 10th, I bogeyed. Then the trash-talking starts. Anyway, to make a long story longer, he shoots 48 on the back, I shot 46, taking a 7 on the 18th in the dark, after driving the ball 320 yards, straight down the middle. On the 16th hole, a short 347 par 4, I was just off the front of the green on my drive, ended up with par after a poor chip. So, he shoots 97, the worst round of his life, he says. I shoot 86, but the front 9 was beautiful, for me. If I could putt, I would have shot par, maybe under par, because that triple would have been par, maybe birdie, plus I 3 putted 4 holes. Oh, BTW, this is pool related because he and I play pool every Wednesday night and this golf outing came about because he was talking trash about 9 ball, the luck involved, and he said there's no luck in golf and he would prove it to me if we ever played. I'm not one to back down from a challenge, so I just had to try him some at his own game. I think the next trap I'll set up for him is a game of Tennis. How could he say no to a game of Tennis with a 300 lb. guy? Oh, bowling has already taken place, I shot just enough to win that day, averaged about 190 for 3 games. So, that's all for this one people, thanks for tuning in, and have a great weekend. I'll be in bed recuperating from a grueling day at the course, LOL.
Peace, John.
