1 st i want to say this 60 year old man feels like he was hit by a mack truck that backed up and hit me again.
we started last night and went 3 and out. the other team threw a 4 1st and my co captain " i am the captain" wanted to throw me. i more or less run the team but i usaully let him do the matching up since he has more experience. he is a 7/8 that been to vegas countless times. im just a lowly 5 thats only been in apa for 3 years.
i came close to telling him to throw somebody else because i have never beat this 4, they got 2 other 4's i have beat every time i played them. i just thought what the hell i gotta end this 4' win streak against me sometime. needless to say i did not end it last night. my loss set the tone for the rest of the team, we lost the next 2 matches also.
well we went back today and the other team threw a 5 1st. again my co captain throws me 1st. it did not start out too good and before you know it i am down 3-1 with this guy on the hill. only reason ot was 3-1 was because he got careless, cocky or whatever. i was not making anything and he was not missing anything so the 3rd rack he had some bravado and tried a tough shot on the 8 and scratched with me still having 6 balls left.i thought serves you right lol.
anyway during the 3 rack i told my team gimme a beer, i been drinking coke. 4th rack i said gimme another beer. like i say i am down 3-1. 5 th rack he breaks dry and i run the table. i thought huh huh the beers kicking in , my turn to to show out. i win the next 3 in a row to win the match.
my teamates win the next 2 in a row. well we finaly get to the finals tonight and the other team throws a 4, my co captain decides to throw a 4 also.
it goes hill hill with my teamate on his last ball. he cuts his last ball in the corner and for some unknown reason decides to draw the cueball back to pocket the 8 in the same pocket as his last ball. he draws the cueball right into the side pocket giving his opponent bih on the 8. WTF ??
my co captain decides to go next, they counter with a 5 who was absolutely on fire. it had shootouts, hellacious safeties by both players but the 5's 2 8 on the breaks did my teamate in. so here we are down 2-0. we throw our other 5 and they counter with a 5. my 5 wins 4-0. during this match my co captain gets called away.
now i am down 2-1. we have me " a 5 ", a 4 , 2- 3's and a 2 left. they only have 2 players left, a 3 and a 6. they throw a 3 " a good shooting 3" i have to win this game to stay alive. my 1 st thought is to save myself for their waiting 6, in order for me to play i have to throw my 2. their is no way my 2 can beat their 3.so i prolong the inevitable by throwing my 4. their 3 is shooting good and wins the 1st game and is already on the hill. i pull my 4 aside and tell him if you cant run play safe. well my 4 wins the next 3 so we are tied 2-2.
so now comes the inevitable. i gotta throw a 3 against their 6. my 3 did manage to get to the hill but lost against that runout machine. oh well at least our same team is cities bound in 9 ball.
i still think my best chance to get to vegas is through the singles route. almost made it last year by coming in 2nd in our singles regionals. every team i play on somebody always cant get off work or just cant handle the pressure and folds during playoffs.
well i did qualify for napa nationals this year , its being held at the southern classic in tunica, only 45 minutes away:grin:
