Played Saratoga for the first time today!

Hi Everyone!

Inspired by people on here I played 15 games on Saratoga today although I narrowly lost to an APA6 (I am a new player APA4) - I really enjoyed the game and seems a game that played to my strengths as a positional player and one who likes to play for snookers and enjoys putting my opponent in tight sports as part of my overall strategy!

So briefly these were the rules we played, he told me them, do they sound about right to you?

Balls 1-6 and 9-14 are in play with the 8 ball.
Open table until the 1 or the 9 are sunk.
You can deliberately snooker an opponent without having to announce it is a safety shot.
No call shots except for 8 ball.

Is this a game people widely play or a game you enjoy playing? Is it named after the horse race track in Saratoga (I am a horse racing announcer so it would be cool if it was!)

Thanks,

Craig

I believe it’s named after the town in Wyoming. They hold tournaments there pretty frequently.

They get some pretty decent pros for it.

I have a lot of fun with Saratoga. Been trying to spread the word as much as possible. The only problem I have with it is that if you do a typical 9 ball style break from the rail you seem to pocket a wing ball every time. So maybe make people break from a box. But a really fun game!

Do you play the balls in numerical order 1-6 and 9-14?
Or is it a bigs/smalls spots/stripes type deal
Does seem a fun little game

I have read the rules for Saratoga and know they say use 13 balls, etc.

Much easier to get people to play if you say let's play 8-ball (by whatever rules you usually play by) but you have to shoot your balls in numerical order (and we also add in last pocket for the 8-ball).

saratoga is a great game for practice or competition. you play rotation with 10-ball rules, no slop.
