Sure, Phillip was from around Port Arthur. They tell me his last name was Hyde??? We'd always shoot the bull when we'd see each other, but I never was good enough to play pool with him. First time I ever met him he said if I could call somebody to play, he'd give them the 4 and 5 in six ball (anybody). That's pretty confident. Rumor was you could pick a spot anywhere on the table and he would bet you he could make a spot and have the cue ball stop within 6 inches of the spot you picked. Saw him hold the challenge table at Goofy's Game Room in Houston for quite a while playing with a house stick. The last time I saw him was not long before he died. He tried to talk me into playing some but I knew better.
I started writing poems about pool players that had gone on, patterned after the song "Little Delia" by Blind Willie McTell. I'll see if I can attach a copy of the one I wrote about Phillip. The events described in the poem are all factual.
