Player ratings in your area

Not looking for names but rather groups of players.

How many players in each of the below levels does your area have and
how big of an area are you referring to?

I am about 40 miles from LA so I will use that area but not San Diego.
Maybe 50 miles or so in any direction from LA.
This is a little bit of a guess as I dont know all the players.

AAA- 0
AA- 10-15
A- 60
B- 300-400

My scale is a little tougher than most. I dont believe there are as many solid A players as others think. AAA would be elite touring Pros

I am betting that Jay Helfert can put some accurate numbers together for
the LA area. The guy has seen everyone
 
I'm going to include all of southeast alaska since i live in such a small populous.

You may have the toughest scale in the world since Jose Parica lives in this area and if he isn't AAA then there are only a few in the world.

Do you think any others around here are AAA in my scale?
Since moving here I have been impressed with the level of the
regional guys. Some guys give up a game at Hardtimes that no one has ever heard of.

I suppose that Hemmah and Wallace fall in the AA catagory, maybe R. Grenier. I used to live in the area and would like to know who you think fall in the AA catagory.

In Colorado we have Haddad and Medina...who probably play AA??

We have a bunch of A players....hard to put a number on them...maybe 30.

San Diego... We have a different rating system. We have:
A+ (Sam and Louis who have both moved), Victor, Dan Wallace, Steve Eakins, Mike Defino and a few others I can't think of
A Tina Pawloski and maybe 5-6 others
A- not to many maybe 5-6
B lotz
C lotz
D ME!!!

I would think that Haddad and Medina would be AA. Danny maybe a few years back was a AAA player. Is Tony P still in Denver? I would think he is
a AA player. Scott T perhaps or at least a really solid A player.

I will try and get a list together of LA players. I really was not trying to knock anyone with this but rather get an idea of how strong players were in other areas and just how strong people thought their area was.

Hemmah, Morro, Tang, Max, Lory, Jerry B, Deo, Ernesto are in the AA class. Jerry and Deo are maybes there but are really strong.
Some might be just really solid A players but they are real good.
The A - AA range can be represent a big gap from the bottom of the
A section to the top of the AA area. Max is likely a AAA player but I am not sure. Tough to say with Arturo and Francisco as well --A or AA.
Corey as well.
IMO the A class is pretty large and strong here for an area this size.

At one time I had thought about trying to have a couple B and C level events but I found it next to impossible to keep track of the players and their correct levels.

Maybe Wayne, Jay or another person will give an opinion. I am sure I missed a few and might be off on the counts.
 
I'm in central Florida, and I don't think there are any real top rated players anywhere in the State.......I used to live just west of Philly Pa., and you couldn't find an "A" player in the whole tri-state are either, or anyone who could run 30 balls...IMHO of course.....:D

Hey Frank,

Yes I forgot about Max. I would put him in the AAA class...also maybe Ernesto (or at least he used to be)?

Piazza may be a AA. His game seems to come and go, I'm not sure that he has the consistancy to be there since he does not play as often anymore. Scott T. is a strong A, but I would not put him in the upper bracket.

I miss CA since there were so many good players. I honestly feel that you need to surround yourself with talent in order to get really good.

B = 30-40 (maybe?)

NYC metro (NYC, outer boroughs, Jersey, Long Is)

Off the top of my head...

AAA-at least a dozen world beaters-can potentially beat anyone on any given day
AA-Quite a few
A- several dozen
B- enough to fill a few buses

As far as "A" I think there's alot more then 5 or 6 others.. You have Dave Nakano, Tony Sorta, Mike Longmire and a host of others up here in North County..

I think I'm a "B" for Banger nowdays.. LOL

If Scott T is only an A, then this is one tough scale.

Any scale is up to interpretation. I always think of it as if two players are
gambling and I have to make a line. Theres a group of players out there that are definitely batter than Scott. That would be the Archers, Efrens,
Coreys, Rockets etc. Then theres a group that I still think gets the edge in
a booking line and thats the other Pro level players and some top regional
guys. Thats not saying that Scott or a player like him can not beat
some of the others.

I was in Fargo in 96 and there were 2 strong A players in the pool room while we were there. I didnt know we had found them both :D
 
I am in the fresno. THere is two AAA players (one is getting real old though). probably two that are aa players or high a players.
 
Our ranking system in declining order goes like this.

Pro Plus- (Paul Potier, John Horsfall, Brady Gollan,Mike Vidas)
Pro- (Frenchie, Alan Ima)
A+
A (Way too many players with A rankings in my opinion.)
B+
B

etc.etc.

I talked to a A level player (locally) who was orginally from Tiawan.Although he was ranked A level in Vancouver Canada, he said his ranking in Tiawan was only C+.Also I talked to two A+ local Philipino players and they said that there are thousands better than them in the Phillipines.Just goes to show you how rankings can vary from location to location.

In Michigan it kinda goes like this

AAA - Jason Kirkwood, Juan Garcia, John Binion, anyone else i am missing from Detroit?

AA - ALOT just depends on your area

A - basically the same as AA and your area

B - which includes ME, But in the smaller area's some of them might be consider'd an A rated person, but alot of them are probably BB rated.

C - Everyone else lol
