Maybe from on top of the pedestals where you and other " serious " players players put your selves bar bangers and league players look the same..
Let me explain the difference
Bar bangers are just what the name implies....people who play in bars....mostly with friends to pass the time away when not trying to hook up with a bar fly. Most have just a passing interest in the game. Most have no interest in improving or buying a cue of their own.
League players have a lot more interest in the game. Most buy cue after cue looking for the magic wand that will make them play better. Of course that leads to cases for their cues along with countless other accessories like tip tools chalk holders etc etc. Some get interested enough to buy a home table.
Now before you jump in and say yea bbut they are still bangers let me tell you that a lot of them wind up taking lessons....buy books .....scour you tube for lessons and drills....ask advice from higher level players in league.
Yea some may never improve or ever reach what you deem an acceptable level of play but quite a few would rather improve than get their ass handed to them week after week..
I guess its hard to fathom that some people like me are willing to take a lesson from Randy g....ask Robb saez for a few tips...play masters as a lowly 5 to gain the experience of playing better players in a heads up race...play in a few non handicapped tournaments where they dont have a chance in hell of getting to the money rounds.
Bar bangers do none of the above and the number of league players that do all that and more would surprise you.
I hope you can see the difference now from high on your pedestal
This. All this. It's such elitist bullshit to lump all players together based on where they play or what organization happens to serve what's left of the pool demand in their area...
To me a banger is just as lorider stated, key being that they don't care about the game, don't care to get better and just like to bang the balls around with friends. I have no problem with these folks, but at least I can understand the position.
To lump these folks in with people like me who play APA in order to have an outlet for some competition, to meet some people and just be around the game I love as much as possible is nonsense. I take lessons, bought a Diamond table, play in local tournaments, buy multiple cues.
I play every day and try to get better - but because the pool scene was vibrant when you were younger and that scene dried up you sit in your tower and judge everyone.
Either you want people to play pool or you don't, it seems to me some folks would rather wrap themselves up in the stories of the good old days than embrace one of the only things that still gets people to a table... any table.
Embrace isn't even the right word, the sentiment is that 'real' pool players can barely tolerate anyone who plays in a banger league; and the message that gets out to anyone who might be on the fence about taking a serious interest in the sport is why bother? Unless you have 9ft tables, in an old school poolroom gambling with the 'real' players you'll never be good enough, or real enough kid - go take up golf.
