Players cue info

Wondering about the model, age, and construction of this cue that I got yesterday. It is a Players brand, the seller said his father owned it and it is about 40 years old? I like the design, albeit a decal cue, and I know it probably is not worth much; but I don't care about that.

I noticed that the butt cap and the joint collar were a little loose and they actually easily screw off. I'm guessing that the glue lost it's bond over the years. Is the butt cap made of Delrin? Any info would be appreciated.

they made lots of cheap cues. many hit great at least the ones that were simple.

glue it back together and if if hits well play with it. or whatever, and sell it for what you can get.

From the photos, it doesn’t look like Delrin

I don't think Players have been around that long. Just like any other lo-mid end chinese imports. No clue as to specific model, that factory has made gillions of cues. You might Cue-n-Case, they own the brand.

Thx for all of the responses.

Do you guys know if threaded (and glued) butt cap and joint collar (and ferrule for that matter) is a typical design? Do some manufacturers (or custom builders) just compression fit an glue on the parts? I imagine threaded design offers more durability / stability? Just curious because this is the first time I've seen a pool cue partly dis-assembled...

That's pretty cheap\quick build quality. Gotta remember that this cue was probably $50 or less wholesale. Also, Lucasi brand started in '96 so Players is roughly same age.

So then are you saying that mid to higher end cue construction would not use threaded design like that? Or, better / longer lasting glue at least?

Similar methods but just way higher quality. These things are cranked out like potato chips. Decent playing cues made to sell cheap. If you cut the butt in half lengthwise you'd see just how cheap. Unless you're doing the work its gonna cost more to fix than the cue is worth.

With this particular cue, I can screw back on the joint collar and the butt cap, both screw on snugly, and the cue plays fine. If anything, I'll add some glue to secure them in place. But, I do like having the ability to unscrew them, if only to see (and show others) how it is made. It's just another cheap, but nice looking (to me) cue in my little, but growing collection.

I think Jim Lucas sold Cue and Case to an overseas company.

Best bet for Info is Koda. Jim Lucas retired, and Wes Bond, who owns Koda (Bull Carbon), is I believe Jim’s son-in-law.

NO. C-n-C is owned by Escalade same outfit in INDIANA that owns LifeFitness,Brunswick,BearArchery just to name a few. Wasn't sold to some asian outfit. Koda has nothing to do with Players, its still a C-n-C brand. I need to write this date down, i actually knew something cuewise Freddie didn't. ;)

You don't want 'the ability to unscrew' it. WTF???? Needs to be screwed-n-glued so it won't buzz and rattle. They use shitty adhesives on some of those older chinese imports and it dries-out and gets brittle. Without glue of some kind it will come loose all the time and buzz/rattle.
