Playing Consistently

Is there some trick to playing consistently? It absolutely drives me nuts to wild swings in my level of play.

It's not winning or losing either. I can lose a set and walk away feeling good because I made the shots I thought I should and executed at what I consider my ability level.

It's when I go out and play and it's as if I had just picked up a cue last week.

I assume there will always be a normal sine wave of play, but the absurd extremes are driving me insane.

FRUSTRATED in SoCal.

Hi.
You are probably quite strong player because then frustration comes more often.
When i started playing again pool my goal was just have fun, learn and try get solid game.
I´ve always been player capable beating anybody when i`m on but those days are too rare. So now almost year and half I changed my game attitude and thinking to get more consistent results.
I got most improvement from C.J´s stuff. I really don´t even know what is TOI but i started using slight inside spin shots to get used to em. Then I left out a TON of side english use. Now I try use more low and high english and speed control.

And last I changed my way of aim. I aim now more cueball to somewhere than ball to pocket. If I have to cut hear of right side I visualize where cueball is gonna go if i make ball middle of pocket. If cueball goes then there object ball have to go also. It put my game really to another level terms of consistency. Idea came from C.J comment again. It went something like this : "You can´t pick up spot from round object. it is gonna move.."

Last tip from me is try lock on aiming line on cloth last. Then you can drop off all complicated stuff away. Thinking mode turns off then. Then just lock on and execute.
Miss and learn.

*Edit* taking video regularity from yourself playing is huge help. I recommend it. I do video myself 80% of time when I go practice.
