Playing DCC Banks for the first time this year

Just curious, from those more accomplished AZ'ers on the forum.. What is your opinion of the overall talent level in the Banks tourney?

I mean, I know about Shane, Alex, John Morra, Larry Nevel, and those guys... But I have watch a few of genipool14's HD YouTube videos of some of the top players playing non-star opponents, and I am totally thinking I can hang. Some of the peeps are shooting 2 and 3 railers that just plain don't go... Shooting straightbacks with the CB coming across the face of the OB, without putting outside spin, or overcutting intentionally to allow the bank to shorten up... One fellow starts off with a run of three against Efren and then misses a lot of straightbacks by a diamond or more even with the ability to bridge on the table bed..

Any decent banks players with an opinion on this? I mean, I literally have never played a competitive game of Banks in my life, but from watching a lot of matches in the past few weeks, a lot of the safeties make perfect sense, and I figure I will of course need to practice enough that all the cross sides, cross corners, and straightbacks under 6 feet need to be automatic. And cross-sides and cross corners need to be nearly automatic with both rolling bank speed, stiff speed, and with up to a tip of turning or hold up English..

I feel that would be more than enough to beat half the field? Or am I misjudging the matches I am seeing? I am playing in all three tournaments this year, and I have a good idea of where I stand in 9-Ball and One Pocket, but no earthly clue in the Banks.

A lot of people enter the banks in lieu of buying a spectator’s pass for the nine days.
.....so you’re hard luck if you draw Brumback.

You have a good plan. There is as much safety play/strategy to full-rack banks as there is to 1P. (short rack is a shooters game) And there are MANY more bankers out there than the ones listed that are deadly........

Get some good time in on some newer Diamonds. They really do bank different than any GC. I think that really skews a lot of what you see in the vids. Many players bank well on one type of table, and get quite a surprise at the DCC....

Good Luck Bus, you get a second try if you want to buy back in.
I always see names I don’t recognize until the final day then the regulars are all fighting for the cheese.
Plenty of side action, tables all over the place, bring a little cash.
One of the best pool gatherings of the year. You’ll love it.

At Derby, there are at least 20 to 30 bankers who can string runs of 3 and 4 or even run out at times. Southern Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, etc. is the heartland of Bank Pool.
Short rack bank games are their meat and potatoes.
Practice your break, because if you don't pocket a ball on the break, your chances of winning that rack are really bad.

Warning.....beware of the Swiss bankers....they tend to get the cash.
 
Being able to beat half the field is good but like already said, just consider it admittance fee to watch the Derby.
But I'm not an accomplished AZ member so you should not give my opinion a second thought.
