Playing good in a tourney or a money match?

It's two different types of pressure. Playing in a tournament only requires the entry/green fees. But, you are also done if you are beat. Money can require a greater financial stake but generally you can keep playing as long as you have the funds.
I've done both. I mostly just play tournaments just because I enjoy it more. Like anything else, the more experience you have playing for money or tournaments the better you should play. Outside factors can also influence how well you play i.e. bankroll, relationships, etc but if you are a good player you can play either tournaments or for money at a high level.

Playing for money is much easier. You can get in a rhythm and get hot and make the other person quit. Plus you get to choose when you play...night or day.
In a tournament, you need to be prepared to be there for at least 12 hours and be ready to come out of the box shooting good. You need to be a morning, daytime, and night time player. Playing a match then waiting a couple hours to play another just wears you down. And if you want to win, it will usually take 12-14 hours until the end.
Man, sometimes the wait for your next match in a tournament is soooo long. I waited 6 hours one time. Then couldn't make a single ball. The difficult part about one on one money games is that you never know when the other player will quit. Does he quit after losing 3 or 4 sets or does he quit after 36 hours of playing and losing thousands of $$? Good luck

Speaking for myself I don't like races (short races), but fortunately in tournaments today they keep getting shorter. Back in my gambling days I would not do races. We did the game thing till someone pulled up, was busted, or we set a time frame to quit. SVB plays long race because he has the ability to last and if he is down the heart to come back. Short races don't favor the better player (5 or 7). I wish I had a dollar for every time someone loses on the hill by an unfortunate roll, being his or the opponent good roll. Just one mistake can cost you the set or tournament. Tournaments tend to ruin a gamblers game because you never come out strong gambling, it was part of the hustle game. You have to reprogram you mind and train of thought to play tournaments to open up strong and keep the opponent in his seat.
