Playing P I G

So my wife, sons, and I are all trying to get better at pool right now. I've never seen/read anything about playing P I G on a pool table (the basketball game), but I figured it would be fun and we played last night - good as in basketball, fun practice session and any number of people can play!

1. Use hole reinforcement labels "donuts" for ball markers.
2. First player marks the CB and OB on an otherwise empty table and attempts the shot.
3. If he fails, it's the next person's turn.
4. If he makes the shot, the next player(s) have to make the same exact shot, or accrue a letter of the word PIG.
5. Once someone has missed 3 of these shots and has the word P I G, then one time only, they get 3 "free throw" shots to take letters off if they make them. We defined the free throw shots as CB anywhere in the kitchen, shoot into either corner pockets at the foot, at OB placed anywhere beyond the box formed by two diamond nearest those pockets.

Would like to hear of other games for multiple people (exclude pea pool or cut throat) or practice games.

Would also like any discussion regarding P I G

It's actually designed as a game so would be fun with the family but I would suggest taking some of the more challenging cards out of the deck if you are at the beginner level so you don't get frustrated. Some of the shots are tough.

It's actually designed as a game so would be fun with the family but I would suggest taking some of the more challenging cards out of the deck if you are at the beginner level so you don't get frustrated. Some of the shots are tough.

When I was a kid, the game was called HORSE. Same rules as you describe, but without Rule 5.

I used to enjoy it when they played HORSE at the NBA All-Star event. If they ever starting doing that again, they'd have to ban Stephen Curry...it would be no contest with him in the field!

And yes, I've played HORSE on a pool table and it's great fun! It's like the Trick Shot events, only none of the goofy gimmick shots, - just one cue and some billiard balls!

Oh yes, I've played it as HORSE as well.

One thing I didn't remember well was play order (hey, it's been 30+ years).

The way we played the other night, if player A made a shot, then player B had to make the shot, and then play returned to player A. But that seemed wrong, I was thinking maybe if player B made the shot, then maybe they got to shoot again?

Comes out as two possible scenarios, and to be honest, I think I've played it both ways with a basketball - in fact I just now Googled it, and actually found it described both ways.


Possibility One: ALL Players attempt made shots
1) Player A makes shot A
2) Player B attempts shot A
3) Player C... attempt shot A
4) Player A attempts a new shot

Possibility Two: ONE Player attempts made shots
1) Player A makes shot A
2) Player B attempts shot A
If Player B makes shot, Player B goes again, attempting a new shot (shot B)
If Player B misses shot A, takes a letter, play passes to next player
3) Next player (A or C...) either has to attempt shot B (if made), or attempts a new shot (shot C)

Wonder which method is normal (or if both are wrong?) and also which method will work best on the pool table?
