Playing surface height?

Google search indicates allowable height is 29.25 to 31 inches.

Is there a consensus as to average height.

Thanks

The higher the table, the better for your back.
The lower the table, the less wood the builder used to make the table.

I prefer to play tables on the lower side, 29.5-30”. Seems like not much difference vs 31-31.5” but in fact the lower table has much more reachable area and much less stretch/bridge shots, overall just a lot more comfy to play on. Don’t notice back issues vs taller tables. I’m 5’10” avg build. I think shorter folks will like shorter tables, taller folks may prefer taller tables.

I’ve often thought about, when these standards were agreed upon. Does anyone know?

I’m pretty average height 183cm, and can definitely feel it in my back, when I’ve played an entire day.

Just curious as to if the standards were made in a decade with lower average height, and should be revised for current day bodies.

That's funny I am only 5'8" but prefer higher tables. Less on back and hips but hey getting old !

Snooker or Pool makes zero difference to me. I never notice. Too many oher variables like the rails, cushions, cloth, pockets.

I’d have to have two identical adjacent tables with an inch difference in slate height to even begin to compare. However, even then I’d likely not notice after hitting a couple of balls.

I won't clean the balls, cloth or the rails on my home table if I'm gonna be playing in a public room.

By doing that, im giving myself the best chance of playing well since ill be use to the conditions.

as for table height.... well, same applies. If my table is at 30", but the public tables are shorter or taller..... it's simple, I lower or raise my table meet theirs.

Having said that, if you don't play in public rooms I wouldn't worry about it and would just put it at whatever height "you" need it to be.

myself? I cannot play on a short table very long due to health reasons. So, I normally keep my table's playing surface at least 31" off from floor.

ymmv ddepending on needs

Play at a few places and if you like one better than the others set your height accordingly. As far as the different factors that come into play at other places, balls, cloth, rails .. etc a good player can adjust in just a few games
