playing the ghost

I play against the ghost for $1 a game... if I lose, then I put the money in my left pocket (aka my piggy bank) and use it for gas or Friday beer night... not always a great incentive to win.

I think the ghost is a great way to become a better player and a fun way to practice. When you get up to the 6-ball ghost start also keeping track of if you parked the Q-ball in the middle of the table. But don't count it as a loss if you don't. I believe you still need an hour or so of position and pocketing drills a day too.

When you get so you can beat the 6-ball ghost a fair percentage of the time, set up Missisispi 9-ball and see if you can beat that ghost. Good luck with that:eek: . Johnnyt

Johnny,

Thanks for the post about Mississippi 9-ball. I usually just throw balls out to practice when I don't have much time. This afternoon I tried MS 9-Ball. I love it, but I'm playing on a Diamond with slow cloth and 4 1/4 inch pockets. I was getting out about 10% of the time, must have hung ten balls in the jaws. Anyway, thanks for the new drill (new to me). Rep to you.

Is there an equivalent drill/practice game for 8 ball? Would it be the same--give yourself ball in hand after the break and try to run out?

At this stage of my game, I never break and run in 8 ball, but maybe I could modify the rules a bit somehow.

What is everyone's Ghost 9'ball high run. I am currently at 6, I had an easy run on my seventh rack but doggit. Really add pressure to top your record.
