What are other AZ'ers league rules regarding playing thru?

The reason i'm asking is last night someone on my team had a family emergency and asked to play thru; the other team said no problem.

Then, someone on the other team says "I don't really want to be here either. Can i play thru?" ; our team says no problem.

The result of all this was one of the other teams' players quit his team for goood after the match because he was so disgusted with it and i qoute "All this f***ing bull sh*t".

Sounds like the kinda guy you don't want on your team anyway. We do play thru's all the time, and I've never seen another team turn down the request.

He wasn't on our team and was actually a cool guy with good ability. The way his play was spaced during the match gave him the maximum down time of any player. He just felt like it was a big waste, especially since it was his own team mate with the 2nd lame request. He came to play not wait.

My question was more of not do you allow play thrus but more like:
Can you just ask for any reason?, when do ask at the beg. of match?, how many players on a team can ask for this privledge?, how many times in a season?, is it just etiquite or a real rule?, what are the repurcussions for team if you don't allow additional players after the 1st one?

I guess i'm asking because if your reason is i just don't want to be here then what are doing in a league. Family and work stuff i can justify. Thanks.

It depends on the situation. I play on two different leagues. One is a 5 man, one game round robin. I don't mine if someone has an emergency.....But if they just don't want to be there, then they should take the night off, or don't play. To me, leagues are supposed to be fun and have team camaraderie. I don't like the idea of letting someone get on a roll by playing 5 games in a row without a valid reason. Or they will expect to do that every week. I know, I have seen people do it.

I worded my answer funny. I meant "they" instead of "you."

We had a team one guy worked 3rd shift and had to leave before 9 PM. He "played out" every night he shot. I was on call on certain nights and would have to leave within the hour upon getting one. We never had problems with the other teams. Even with the possibility of two of us playing out we did it the whole season.

We always informed the opposing team of everything 30 minutes before the match as we warmed up. If someone comes up with a lame excuse or a shakey reason then I would expect a questionable response. Emergencies yes I've seen them too and believe me you can tell by a guys demeaner in a game if he really has to go. (Very aggressive play.) People pick up on that demeaner to judge later if they are going to let you 'play out" next time.

In the end it's all about sportsmanship as you ask yourself what if I was in the same position as this player? It's not a real rule just human understanding.

The emergency I referred to was a guy who wanted to play out and did like it was speed pool. He then stopped and said, "I cant do this I got to go."
We couldnt finish the match. Worse knowone knew what was going on. We found out the next day there had been a accident involving a family member careflighted to the hospital. We finished the match at a later date and we didnt blame him a bit. We actually cided him for staying. He didnt want to let his team down and lose the match was his answer.
