Playing Vivian Villareal

I just watched a WPBA match on ESPN with Tiffany Nelson playing Vivian Villareal and I don't understand how Vivian gets away with constant talking and whistleing during her match. Either i'm missing something or ESPN encourages her to entertain all of the non-players watching the pool telecasts.
What's your opinion on this type of behavior during a pool match? I don't see how anyone can concentrate playing Vivian and maybe that's her idea.

She doesn't do it while her opponent is playing so I don't see what the big deal is. Besides a little personality and crowd interaction only benefits the tour in my opinion. :)

SCCues,

I guess you didn't notice the switch on Vivians butt. :) When she sits down she goes pretty much silent. What she says or does when she is shooting is nobodies concern.

Watching Vivian play is very entertaining to me. As others have stated, she only does those things when she's at the table, and the fans love the interaction.

Thanks for the opinion and the opposing views in this thread. Now I can see why she does those things, but I can't say I like it. I practice with a friend and he gets upset if I do something that distracts him and I guess i've become used to playing and not doing anything that might distract my opponent while their shooting or waiting for their next turn at the table.

i agree with SS all that whooping an hollering had all those fans on her side and what does she do once she "has action". She gets beat. That is the best way to stop all that whooping and hollering. Someone one said "act like you'ev been here before" or something on those lines.

As I posted in another thread about this subject, I think vivian just needs to tone it down a bit. I don't think her hollering or doing her tornado motions is bad when she is shooting and makes a good shot but in one example: she started doing her tornado motion and "whooping it up" when Tiffany missed a shot in one of her matches and left a hanger. I don't think that is very good sportsmanship.

Just an opinion, but I think if she toned it down a bit and concentrated more on the game, she might get to the finals more. I could be wrong though, maybe wooping it up helps her to get as far as she does in tournaments and without doing it she wouldn't make it in any tv matches.

As far as I know Vivian has always "whooped it up" while she plays, and in her career she's seen and won a number of finals. I think at one point she was the #1 player. I've never heard any of the other players complain about it, and I know it doesn't bother me any, but everyone is entitled to an opinion!

Well from what I'm reading on this thread at least three people who've posted must play alone in nice comfy temperature controlled soundproof rooms.I learned playing in a place where the jukebox was blaring, people bumped into you etc. etc.
I'm pretty sure Vivian learned to play in a similar environment. Her doing the tornado was probably just to get the crowd going......not a snub at Tiffany.
The only time I saw her making noise when someone was about to shot was against Kelly Fisher and that was because Kelly got to the table for an easy shot before Vivian made it back to her chair. Didn't seem to bother Kelly any.

I worded that badly. I didn't mean she never got to finals or would never get to the finals. I was just trying to say that concentrating more could help and also saying that I could be wrong and playing her style may work for her.

And if it doesn't bother the players, thats really all that counts. The crowd seems to love it. And I enjoy watching her play. She is a great player.

It would be interesting to know what Karen Corr or Kelly Fisher think of Vivians "style of play".

It's so funny to me...

Cause I love for my opponent to be that relaxed and making noise. It helps me to relax and get in the groove myself. I am a talker...like Earl. If I am running balls...I am the cockiest little mofo on the planet. I just think thats my style...I can't help it. I am no where near this way at anything else...but pool...I am mouthy. Whatever Vivian does at her turn at the table is just fine with me...heck if she wants to Polka I am all for it! Does not disturb me at all.

Don't make the game about your opponent...make it about your time at the table.

You may be right about that Terry.

And noise doesn't bother me at all. I've played in places that had Kareoke right next to the pool table. I mean a few feet from the speakers! Now sometimes that can be really bad.(Depending on who is doing the singing) :) I am more concerned with not distracting my opponent.

Why? It seems as if you are digging for one person to say, "Yes, it bothers me". So far two of the four women on AZ were asked about Vivian and both responded...ask the other two. Heck both Karen and Kelly have e-mail....just let us know, LOL. ;)

I didn't realize Melissa also responded about this. Just read her post.
I wouldn't say digging. It just seems like their style of play are opposites. Not looking for someone to say yes, I would actually prefer no one to be bothered/distracted by it because like I said before, Vivian is entertaining.
