Playing with the Ghost

I know the concept, break and then ball in hand and pray that you runout . I doubt that I can beat the ghost or even runout. What i am thinking is starting with 5 balls and move my way up to 9 balls. The question is ...

1. Race to ?
2. when do you move from from 5 to 6 balls ? Is enough just to beat the ghost at 5 balls or do you need to achieve a 5-0 score ?

An alternative way to keep score is to add a ball when you run out and subtract a ball when you don't. This is called "progressive" practice, and it's an automatic way to know how many balls you're likely to run (on average), and a good way to challenge yourself to improve with every rack.

Be prepared for disappointment at first - we usually think we're better than we are.
