I think the main point about playing with valuable vintage cues is that there are people around some places who wouldn't mind killing you to get one.

You think that is a main problem? You could say that about anything you own of any value down to the money you have in your pocket. In fact a collectable cue may he one of the least things you have to worry about. I own a few valuable cues and my only concern would be them being damaged.

The other post about playing with vintage cues covers a lot about this...

A rough comparison would be someone I know who has an original 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitar, one of THE holy grail guitars of all time, akin to a Balabushka for rarity. He used to gig with it, but it's just too valuable.. he got a re-issue guitar to play out with, and the '59 stays home for recording.. so it gets played.

Pool players know cues... when you rock an inlaid Szamboti, you'll have a lot of attention, some of it dubious.

macguy is right.....someone is just as apt to kill you to steal the Omega watch you might wear.
