I can't believe how many players are playing with "javelins" now. Earl, Shaw, SVB all have cues that are taller than they are! There must be something to it, perhaps stability? Accuracy? i'm curious as to what others think about longer than standard cues. I tried the various extenders out but am back with a regular playing cue again. I did find them great for the mid range to long game but for the short game, all the touch shots, baby swerves, nip draws, the feel for stun runthu's....gone. no idea. That and pretty ungainly to wield around, a lot of collateral damage. So back to the old broomstick. Just wondering weather the long-bow is here to stay as an everyday cue. What is your take on them? As stated above, there are lots and lots of threads about this but since I'm here here is my thoughts on extensions.
Just like c.f. shafts, quality layered tips and chalk, the extension whether it be rear or mid, can and will benefit some players while wreaking havoc on others.
You said yourself, that it was not for you. I wouldn't worry about it.
As for me, well all of the above seems to help my game just enough to make it worth the purchase.
Because, let's not forget that between two equal players it will always be that very small difference that makes one a winner and the other the well, loser.

Some of it may be because if you wanted a longer cue before the popularity of extensions you had to have a custom built. Without trying a long cue thats a pretty big risk to take. Im not sure when the mid extensions came out but it seems like they have been popular for only the last 2 years or so. I know when I tried one I fell in love with the longer cue. But I am 6'1" and usually had my back 2 fingers wrapped behind the butt of the cue, now i can hold my cue like a normal person. I have a 5" extension which I prefer and a 2 1/2' extension that I use in tight quarters.
