Plea for tournament directors: publish results

If you're a director of pool tournaments, please try to make the effort to publish complete records (ie. the match results, say 6-3 and so on) of individual tournaments. However insignificant your tournament may seem to you. The local weekly tournament I attend has pretty complete records of each match and this allows me to compute (Mike Page's) Fargo Rating for each player.

Now, it won't be me who's computing say Fargo Ratings for your local tournament, but perhaps someone wants to. By publishing the results, you enable this possibility. For system like Fargo Rating, the more results available the more accurate the rating for each player will be. If you start publishing the results right now and someone decides to run statistics a year later, it's a much better starting point to use those statistics when you already have the historical data.

I know that publishing results takes some effort, but in my opinion it should be worth it. In addition to the possibility of running statistics, people are also interested in seeing the results just as they are. In Finland, the billiard community has developed a culture in which it is expected that results of bigger tournaments are updated live. This is partly thanks to tournament chart spreadsheets developed by Resulttia Solutions and Pool Garden. The spreadsheet makes it easy to copy-and-paste each round's results to a message forum, say.

By the way, the spreadsheets are in Finnish only, but if anyone's interested using them, I can ask Mika whether they can be translated to English. I'm sure there are other technical solutions available, but at least in Finland the use of these spreadsheets has encouraged live updating of results and as a consequence, pretty much complete records of those tournaments publicly available.
