I think most asian players are unknown to the US just because they never play there. Chang is one of Taiwans best. he sure is a monster, saw him run 9 pack in a race to 11 on taiwan pro tour. Taiwan has a lot of very very good players. just look at cheng brothers at last yrs us open tourneys in vegas, no one knew them and they finished all pretty high in both events. To me its sad that these guys dont play all over the planet regularly as the europeans do cause that would change results dramaticly....

^that's the exciting thing about pool - the moment when someone beats a famous player and then we say, "who the hell is this guy???" like when wang can went to the US and almost won the Ultimate 10-ball. or when carlo biado went to the US for the first time. everyone thought this guy was just there at the pool hall to rack and assist dennis orcollo to practice his break.
That about sums it up. He controls break well, steals break when opponent makes mistake, makes least mistakes and has awesome safety game
Different guy. JL Chang is Chang Jung Lin (or Chang Rong Lin) the more famous Chang that rest of world know who has won World 8b champ, All Japan and was quite dominant on Asian Tour few years ago. This is the Chang who will play Orcullo in upcoming CSI event in July
First we have to make distinction- Taiwan and China . Women's pool and men's pool.
In China, men's snooker is much bigger than men's pool. Ronnie O and Ding Junhui are quite well known here whereas the pool superstar are relative unknowns. Look at number of new snooker tourneys added to snooker calendar. Women's pool is way more popular than men's pool but is still not one of the most popular sports. The best men pool players and monsters are still from Taiwan not China. The best players from China are players like Fu Jianbo, Li Hewen, Chu Bingjie, Wang Can but IMHO they play below speed of top Taiwanese men players.
Wu is from Taiwan but now playing for China.
Women's pool (men's pool not yet) is really taking off in China producing many champions and surpassing Taiwan women players.
On other hand reverse is true in Taiwan where pool is more popular than snooker.
There is misconception that men's pool is big in China probably cos of the growth of women's pool but men's pool in China still have long way to go to produce world champions

Maybe somebody can explain this. Why would anybody think that 2 sports that are virtually indistinguishable from each other except the size of the table think that this is somehow going to be great going forward for say...the next 20 years. Please people don't give me the "you don't know what your talking about" crap. I GET there are differences...but not enough to say they are 2 separate sports.
I'm sorry but the sight of "pros" playing serious tournaments on valley bar tables is borderline hilarious to me let alone the sight of them rummaging around in their pockets for change.
Do any European promoters ever think of moving a "tour stop" to the US once a year. I'm not sure who sponsors snooker in Europe but aren't their products sold here? I haven't followed what has or hasn't been tried so maybe this all has been done before.
I'm going to take a lot of arrows for this but the sight of a snooker champion smashing into a rack of 10 ball just seems about as ridiculous as trying to convince Roger Federer to play table tennis.
The stands behind the table were empty because the big wall was there with the graphics. I was wondering the same thing, but they did not show the audience much when I was watching. Where people were sitting looked to be pretty filled.
The quality for me was not too good, it was squashed to the wrong format and had a lot of interlacing lines though the video. I watched a few racks then turned it off.

Chang Yu Lung has been a top pro in Taiwan for quite awhile now. As another poster mentioned, I believed he was ranked #1 in Taiwan for a couple times. The best two Taiwanese players now at Chang Jung Lin and Ko Pin Yi and they play well in all kinds of table set up. I've found that Chang Yu Lung lacks a bit in the pocketing department, if you have watched him play, he gets away with a lot of shots that would have rattled out on a tighter table. Consistent play and smart breaking are the key factors to his success - nothing fancy about his game.
