Please help with my tip issue.

I have a major dilemma. My tip guy has been doing my tips for many years and is a friend.
He’s top notch, does tips for many of the stars.
He knows what and how I like my tip he doesn’t have to ask.
Here is my issue.
Again, he knows me and I reminded him what I want, he gave me the look.
I gave him 3 shafts that I use for 9 ball. I want a dime radius knocked down to a certain height.
I get the shafts back and they are very high (like cold nipples on steroids) with a lot of meat on them and shaped about 8 cents.
8 cents can you believe it.
Do I ask for a refund? I asked for dime shape and I got 8 cants shape.
I can’t make a ball. Last week I could run up to the orange 5 ball. Every shot I take I look down the barrel and think “cha Ching”, 8 cent shaped tip. I’m in desperate need of help from the esteemed and knowledgeable experts of AZB.
Refund?
New tip guy?
Quit pool?
Is violence in the equation?

After getting the shafts back, I assume you had a talk with your friend to see if he could make the necessary alterations to get your tips how you requested? That would be a reasonable request and it seems to me that would be the first logical step. Did I miss something in your original post that he refused to reshape your tips?

Reasonable communication around expectations and past service would be the best and first place to start. Given you are so stressed (high strung?) about this before even talking to your friend / installer seems like something else is going on here. Sounds like you are an experienced player, you should have tools to take down and reshape your tips. If the installer fails to stand by / adjust his work (gotta keep those customers coming back, right?), then find another installer and let your current one know you are planning to do this before you hang up / walk out the door...
 
This is nonsense……your friend does your cue tips……known him for years……he fucked up and didn’t shape the
tips exactly as in the past……Hmn……but the installation was clean, the right brand and type tip……Right? And you
wanted a dime contour versus a nickel but it still is less oval than you want & there’s some leather you’d like removed.

Either you are too timid to be honest and candid with your friend that he didn’t deliver like in the past and he needs to
fix the tips or you are too lazy or incapable of performing any tip reshaping which seems pretty basic and intrinsically
linked to owning your own cue. Perhaps you were never taught how to shape a cue tip. Personally, I’d just fix it myself.

It seems like this thread was more intended to vent your frustration because fixing this faux problem seems pretty simple.

He handed it to you, and you looked at it. Why didn't you hand it back and ask to have more taken off and dime shaped?

If you like it long and he cut it short you would have an actual issue. All he has to do is reshape it, easy. I have had people ask me to take more off many times. No big deal.

Or shape it yourself if you don't want to ask.

I can’t afford a new cue at this time. The prices of tip shapers everyone is advising me to buy and lessons on using them is costly.
I think I’ll use those Puffin cues off the racks I like the tips and taper

I was curious too, but I assume that means his tip is eight cents stacked on each other tall, which is roughly 1/2 inch, which is very tall.

Cocobolo cowboy may have some more freebies he received as donations for the boys & girls club that he'd have no problem selling you

Hes a cheap basturd but it is 100% profit for him and it is unlikely anyone would ever know he did that.
