Please your thoughts on this Skip Weston

Just purchased this 2002 Skip Weston 8 pointer and would like to know all I can about it. The points are cocobolo as is the butt. The shadow points are either bobinga (african rosewood) or rosewood. The points are done with Weston's "recut" method so there are no seams at the top of the points, and they all line up perfectly as well. The tall points have 4 veneers; birdseye maple, rosewood/bobinga, purpleheart and then ebony. No dyed woods, just natural colors. It has a brown lizard wrap, flat faced genuine ivory joint with 3/8 x 10 screw, 2 unused Weston shafts with ivory ferrules and a predator 314-1 shaft with matching ringwork, moori mediums on all 3. The pictures do it little justice, it's a great looking cue.

Here's what I hope to learn:

-What would this cue have sold for in 2002, with all 3 shafts?

-What would it sell for in 95% used condition today? I've seen a few comparable Westons, but none with the ivory joint and leather wraping.

-Anything else somebody can tell me about this cue?

It has a few tiny dings here or there. Ebay buy from a man in Boston who said he had it 6 years, not the original owner, 2nd I believe.

Thanks in advance.

You robbed the gentleman

Great looking cue, sir! Nice to see that the original shafts are unplayed!

Skip reputation as one of the premier cuemakers keeps growing as his waiting list increases.

Send the cue to him should you decide to refinish it (assuming it absolutely needs it). Also, get another regular shaft made for it. Never hurts to have a regular playing shaft.

That cue the way it is (in this market) is prolly $1500-1800. JoeV would have a better answer than I would. He was one of the first ones to broker Skip's cues. I'm sure he'll reply regardless.

The number is a broad spectrum, but it allows for interpretation. Also, is the buttcap ivory? Did Skip install the leather wrap?

I've sent him multiple e-mails. :)

Skip should do the work, I do not know his backlog at the moment.

He could verify all the materials used in the cue. The butt cap on this kind of cue was never ivory. It looks all original from the pics.

Based on what I sold mine for about a year ago, and what my friend bought one for(looks just like yours, he paid about $600 w/ two shafts).... I'd say what you bought it for is market value in this market.

This is not a slam on the cuemaker, just a reflection of the current economy and how cheap cues in general are selling for. It's a great time to buy if you need a cue.

thanks

Thanks for the responses. The butt material is definately synthetic, the seller said that was ivory but it isn't. The joint and ferrules are genuine ivory though, of that I'm certain.
